Fergus (aka Gus)'s Story

Gus is your 'oh-so-typical' bouncy big puppy with a heart of gold. He's got the softest golden brown coat with four white feet, white tuxedo chest and white tip of his always wagging tail. Shiny white teeth and his teenage aura makes us believe that he is just about a year or so. At approximately 55 lbs, he may fill out more but in his mind he is a lap dog with his main goal to just be a snuggler. Boxer like ears and black tinged muzzle add to his soft expression as he melts under all pats and strokes. At his current foster, he is learning to live with cats and has been comfortable and not destructive in the house. Rumor has it that he was found hanging around in a cemetery during that bad weather we all experienced and made no attempt to leave. That makes his love and trust in people even more endearing. Although he tries hard, his skills can use some work, but he is very attentive and wants to learn and will be a great student. He will be a joyful addition to anyone, especially an active home.

Many thanks to Stokes County Animal Shelter for this handsome boy!

Prospective adopters must first fill out an extensive application, after which we check their vet records, their references, and then do a home visit. After all that, they may come to the prison (with all pets) to meet the inmate-trainer, one of our instructors, a prison staff member, and a Paw Alliance representative. After a 45 minute meet and greet, if they still want the dog, and we approve of them, they are committed to adopting the dog. But they cannot adopt until the end of our 10 week training.
