Farkle's Story

Farkle is an 9 year old Shiba Inu, around 35lbs. He's been adopted and returned several times at no fault of his own, and we can't really understand why!

He loves to play with toys (especially a ball!) but is not incredibly active. He is a very low-key dog and spends most of his day napping happily, waiting for someone to do something with him when they’re ready! He’s been with us for over a year and has never had an accident in the house or chewed up anything he shouldn’t and can be trusted unattended. He’s fine with cats, and although he would prefer to be the only dog in the home he could potentially mesh with another older, chill dog. In that case we would require at least 2 meet and greets with your existing dog and extend our "trial period" from 3 months to 6 months.

Farkle does have either an old injury or possible birth defect that has caused some neurological changes due to an irregular vertebrae in his back, however for the last 4-5 months he’s been off medication and has had no symptoms except some mild weakness in his hind end. A potential adopter would have to be aware that he may need to be put on an NSAID again in the future. Potential adopters should also consider their house setup, as having to go up and down full flights of stairs on a regular basis may not be maintainable if his hind end does decline in the future. Farkle also cannot be confined to a crate as it will aggravate his back. He will happily stay confined to one room with a baby gate if preferred. Despite this issue, we feel Farkle could make a great dog for a first time owner so long as they prioritize a healthy relationship with a veterinerian and bi-annual examinations. He should be okay to live with older children (6+) who can be taught to handle a dog with care and supervised closely.

We are happy to answer any questions about Farkle including regarding his disability BY EMAIL (info@rosebudrescue.com), but please be patient with us as the care of our animals will always be our top priority.
If you are interested in adopting Farkle, please see our Adoption Info and fill out an Adoption Application, both of which can be found at rosebudrescue.com/adopt
