Estrellita's Story

Enchanting Estrellita!

**APPLICATIONS CLOSED** This girl lives up to her Spanish name as "Little Star!" She'd been a mainstay at our sterilization campaigns in Soacha, Colombia -- part of the welcome wagon and general managerial oversight. E had a very kind lady that cared for her, but she was left on the street during the day to fend for herself, so we decided to bring this very special pup to Toronto. E is now in foster care in T.O., in search of a forever family!

Estrellita is about 30lbs and 1.5 years old, she's a solid but sporty hound mix -- our best guess is Dachshund and Beagle. She has a very soulful and serious presence when you first meet her, but she can really let loose and becomes a total goofball once she gets to know you. She lives and gets along well with other dogs, she's been tested with cats and seems indifferent. E has not been tested with young kids and we think she'd do best in a home with kids 12+ only. She's a medium-to-low-energy girl, she'd like a quiet home, daily walks, nothing crazy.

She has been vetted in Colombia and has been vetted here in Toronto as well. She is microchipped, spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and has tested negative for heartworm and vector-borne diseases in a SNAP 4Dx test, she has also had a clear fecal test in Toronto

Estrellita knows her basic commands. She'd love a house with a fenced yard ton indulge her passions for bird and squirrel spotting, but would probably be fine in a condo as well, so long as she gets adequate time out of doors for walks and exploring. She would benefit from a guardian that is committed to working with her to build her confidence through positive reinforcement.

From her foster mom: "Estrellita is a sweet and affectionate pup who will snuggle with you for hours while you binge-watch Netflix, snoring loudly the whole time. She loves napping in sunbeams, watching birds out the window and hunting for squirrels. For a dog without any formal training, she walks surprisingly well on a leash (unless she sees a squirrel). Her house training is excellent, and she's had no accidents in her foster home. Estrellita is generally good with other dogs, but can be a bit protective of her toys and favourite comfy spots. She doesn't bark often in the house, but when she does, it's a big loud beagle bark."

Estrellita's adoption fee is $1100.00. Save a Friend Dog Rescue conducts ongoing spay-neuter and public education campaigns in Colombia to help combat the pet overpopulation problem there. We therefore require our expenses to be fully covered from adoption fees so that we can continue our animal welfare work.
