Esther is a 3-year-old, 16 lb female Terrier/Chihuahua mix from California who arrived in NYC on 2/28. Now that she's been with us for about a month, she has settled in beautifully and continues to show more of her lovely personality each day.<br/><br/>Esther is an incredibly demure, sweet, and low-key girl. She's a very chill, easygoing dog who is happiest simply being near her people — she is truly human-centered and forms strong, gentle bonds with her caregivers.<br/><br/>She enjoys going for walks, cuddling up with her foster family, and playing with her favorite toy rabbit. While she has her playful moments, Esther is overall quite relaxed and content, perfectly balancing light activity with lots of cozy downtime.<br/><br/>Esther is fully potty trained and crate trained. She settles nicely in her crate and sees it as a safe, cozy space, often choosing to relax there on her own even when given free roam.<br/><br/>She walks well on leash, though she can be a bit skittish at times and may pause or dig her heels in briefly as she takes in new surroundings.<br/><br/>Esther has done well with other dogs both in and out of the home. While she is respectful and appropriate socially, she tends to prefer a bit of space at first and warms up at her own pace.<br/><br/>She loves being close to her foster family and is happiest when curled up nearby after a walk or some light playtime. She is a sensitive, affectionate companion who thrives in a calm, steady environment.<br/><br/>Esther is looking for a low-key home that matches her gentle energy. She could do well either as a solo dog or with another calm, respectful dog.<br/><br/>We recommend Esther for a home with older children who can understand and respect her soft, slightly shy nature.<br/><br/>Vaccinated for Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella. Neutered and microchipped. Tested for vector-borne illnesses.
