Emma bonded with Benjamin's Story
Emma and Benjamin...

Every time I share a picture of Emma, I get inquiries about her. People can't understand how such a precious dog could still be at our shelter. I wanted to give you a little background on Emma and Benjamin so you would have a better understanding of these siblings.

We rescued Emma and Benjamin, along with 17 other dogs from Franklin Street in Charleston, Ms. All of the dogs were offsprings from one little mama dog that was abandoned after the house where she lived was destroyed by a fire. The neighbors named her Diamond. The family moved away, leaving her behind to fend for herself. She had puppies and then her puppies had puppies. By the time someone asked us for help, there were little scruffy dogs everywhere up and down the street.

Emma and Benjamin are the only 2 of all the dogs we rescued from Franklin St. that remain at our shelter today. Emma did get adopted by a wonderful couple awhile back and they tried really hard. They kept Emma for 5 months but she never allowed them to get close to her. She became very depressed after leaving her brother so we decided it was best to bring her back into our care.

The day Emma came back to us, she lit up like a Christmas tree the moment she saw Benjamin again. She got right in his kennel with him and they have been together ever since.

In a perfect world, all dogs would be warm and fuzzy and friendly with everyone they meet. But in reality, there are many dogs that are so fearful, they can't make it in the real world. It terrifies them to get out of their comfort zone and that is why no-kill shelters are so vital.

We are that comfort zone for Emma and Benjamin. When visitors come to our shelter and see these 2 dogs in our lobby, they are immediately heartbroken for them because they are so afraid of strangers. But when it is just us and no one else around, they are happy and playful and full of mischief. I am so thankful we can give them that joy because they are precious dogs.

Still, I will never give up Hope that one day their ship will come in and they can go to the perfect forever home together.... We will never split them up again....

Benjamin's profile is listed at :
https://www.petfinder.com/dog/benjamin-bonded-with-emma-77897330/ms/southaven/tunica-humane-society-ms108/
