Emilio's Story

About Emilio
Meet Emilio, a 2-year-old hound mix weighing 45lbs who is ready to find the forever home he deserves. Emilio originally came to Canada from Mexico through a rescue as a puppy and was very sick and emaciated. He spent the last two years in a home before being abandoned due to circumstances beyond his control. Through it all, he has remained a loving, affectionate boy who is eager to bond with his people.

Emilio is sweet, cuddly, playful, and incredibly smart. He already knows lots of commands and absolutely loves showing off his skills for treats and praise. His favourite trick is "middle" where he'll happily trot between your legs, sit proudly, and wait for his well-earned recognition. He enjoys training sessions, sniffy walks to explore the world with his nose and curling up for cuddles. While he may be a little nervous around new people and unfamiliar situations at first, once he feels comfortable, his fun-loving and affectionate personality shines through.

Training & Support
Emilio is looking for an adopter who can continue helping him build confidence. New sights, sounds, and unexpected situations can sometimes be overwhelming for him, and he may react fearfully to larger dogs while on walks. He does well with small, calm dogs and is highly motivated to learn. Because he is intelligent and genuinely enjoys training, Emilio has great potential to continue growing with patient guidance, consistency, and encouragement.

Ideal Home
Emilio would thrive in a home that understands he may need a little time to settle in. A calmer environment with predictable routines would help him succeed, as busy households, sudden movements, and loud noises can be scary for him. For this reason, he would do best with older, respectful children aged 12+.

Emilio has successfully lived with another small dog and may enjoy sharing his home with a well-matched canine companion. He has made dog friends, enjoys walking alongside other dogs, and can be playful in the right setting. However, he can also be reactive toward some dogs, so he is not a good candidate for dog parks. Instead, he would love a few trusted dog friends and thoughtful introductions.

Emilio was cat tested and showed a positive response to cats. He may do well in a home with a dog-savvy cat, provided introductions are done slowly and carefully.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.
Children: 12+
Cats: Ok with monitoring
Dogs: Small dogs
Training Needs: Confidence building
Adoption Fee: $391

If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.

For more information on our adoption process, go to vancouver.ca/adopt
