___

Meet the Gem Litter!

Emerald is an adorable, fluffy little girl with a fun, outgoing personality. She loves to play and is usually ready to jump in and see what her siblings are up to. She may take a minute to soak things in when something is brand new, but it doesn’t take long before her curiosity kicks in and she’s ready to explore. She’s playful, social, and seems to have a nice balance of confidence and thoughtfulness as she figures out the world around her.

Emerald is being fostered in Austin, Texas, and is available for adoption out of state. She cannot transport until she is at least 10 weeks old, which will be October 7, 2026. Transport can be arranged by the rescue once she is matched with an approved adopter.

The adoption process includes an application, phone interview, video call with the foster home, virtual home visit, and vet and personal reference checks.

Emerald was born on July 29, 2026, and is nearly 8 weeks old. She and her littermates came into rescue after being born into a hoarding situation involving approximately 25 small dogs. Their mom is about 15 pounds and is reportedly a Chihuahua/Cocker Spaniel mix (we’ve included a video of her for reference), while dad is believed to be some type of Dachshund mix. Because of the mix of dogs in the home, we can’t say for certain what Emerald will look like or how big she’ll be as an adult.

Right now, Emerald is at that fun puppy age where everything is new and there’s always something to investigate. She loves playing and wrestling with her littermates, exploring her surroundings, nibbling on whatever happens to be within reach, and then crashing hard after wearing herself out. She’s a pretty outgoing girl overall, but like any young puppy, she sometimes likes to take a second to check out a new situation before diving in.

Like any puppy her age, Emerald is just beginning to learn how the world works. She isn’t potty trained, crate trained, or leash trained yet, so she’ll need a family ready to guide her with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Because she’s still so young, she’ll do best in a home where someone is around more often than not to help her establish routines, build confidence, and continue her socialization.

A home with another well-balanced dog who would be welcoming and patient with a puppy would be a huge plus for Emerald. Having a good canine role model can help her learn the ropes of how to be a dog, from appropriate play and boundaries to settling into the everyday rhythm of a home.

Bringing home a puppy is a big commitment, and we want to make sure everyone in the household is ready for the time, patience, and responsibility that come with raising one. Those early months are an investment, but they’re also some of the most rewarding as you watch your puppy learn, grow, and become a lifelong companion.

___

***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. ***
