Unfortunately, after a kerfuffle with the family's small dog - "kerfuffle" being the polite term for "everyone had a very bad day" - Ellie found herself back with us.<br/>To give her the best chance of success, Ellie is looking for a home where she can be the only pet. She promises to handle the position of Chief Household Animal with profound gratitude, excellent manners, and occasional bouts of zooming.<br/>Ellie is affectionate, playful, smart, and eager to please. But when you first meet her, she may seem alert and a little standoffish.<br/>She isn't standoffish.<br/>She is watching you carefully, trying to answer a question that no dog should ever have to ask: "Are you safe?"<br/>Sit quietly and give her a minute...<br/>She'll come closer, then closer still. She'll lean against you, curl into your side, roll over for belly rubs - and, when you stop petting her for some completely unreasonable reason, gently nudge your hand to remind you that her belly still needs rubbing.<br/>Ellie wants so desperately to belong. She wants a person or family who'll be patient enough to earn her trust - and kind enough to protect it once they do.<br/>Despite whatever has made her afraid, Ellie keeps taking that leap.
