Ella's Story

Ella had a tough start. She was first rescued from a scary situation living on the streets. Since her rescue, over 2 years ago, she has been living in a very loving home. Unfortunately, her and the dog she has been living with are no longer cohabiting well together. To no fault of Ella's. She is a great housemate and does not "counter surf", completely house broken and can be left free roaming in the home when left alone.

Ella is a wonderfully interesting combo of traits. She is fearful of strangers but LOVES an adventure. We are hoping to find someone with similar attributes. Somebody who does not entertain much and loves to explore – an introverted adventurer! She also has the stamina for a dog on the farm! She would be happy as a clam working along side someone till the sun goes down.

Her new home must be a quiet, adult only home with somebody that is there most of the time. She will, however, not be happy as a homebody as she loves to go to the beach and swim, go on hikes and go to an open field to play fetch! She loves these adventures, if there are not many people around. She loves to go explore but will not be a dog that “will go everywhere with you”. She will be scared going to coffee shops, breweries, stores, etc. She would be happiest not in a city setting. She will also need a completely fenced in yard – no apartments.

She does great with other dogs! She has met some cats on walks (and does not want to chase them) but it is unknown how she would do living with one.

Ella is fearful of men and children and whole heartedly prefers women. She is the BEST snuggler and loves to cuddle in bed. She is good off leash and knows a few commands “sit”, “down” and “got to your bed.” She has also gone to herding classes and done really well!

Ella is a very kindhearted dog that does not have a mean bone in her body…just some scared ones. For anyone interested in adopting a fearful dog, KARE recommends this book: “The Cautious Canine – How to Help Dogs Conquer Their Fears” by Patricia McConnell. Please contact us if you would like to learn more about this gentle yet dynamic girl.

KARE reserves the right to adopt to residents of Western Washington, only.
