Meet Ella — A Sweet, Gentle Soul Looking for the Right Home <br/> <br/>Ella is a beautiful young, 1 1/2 year old Lab (or mostly Lab) with the sweetest heart and so much potential. She has already come such a long way in a short amount of time, and with the right person and environment, she will continue to blossom into an incredibly loyal and loving companion. <br/><br/>Ella is located in Mayport, PA, however she travels to Erie, PA frequently and is willing to travel to Ohio to meet her forevers if it looks like a good match.<br/><br/>Ella was rescued from a shelter in southern Tennessee at the end of February 2026 when she was approximately 1½ years old. After arriving in Pennsylvania, she became frightened and escaped the next morning, surviving on her own in the woods and farmland surrounding our property for 45 days before finally being safely brought home. Because of her past experiences, she still carries some anxiety and caution, but she continues to improve every single week as she learns to trust and feel safe.<br/><br/>About Ella<br/>• Spayed (January 2026)<br/>• Vaccines and boosters are all current as of 5/12/2026<br/>• On Bravecto for tick prevention (next chew due first week of June 2026) and Interceptor Plus for parasites (on the 15th of each month)<br/>• Weighs 50–52 lbs<br/>• Very healthy with beautiful white teeth<br/>• Appears to be primarily Labrador Retriever, possibly mixed with some Border Collie due to her small size and little white markings on her chest, stomach, and back foot<br/>• Has Lab webbed feet and classic Lab personality traits<br/><br/>Ella’s Personality<br/>Ella is one of the gentlest dogs I’ve ever been around. She has never shown any aggression whatsoever — no growling, snapping, nipping, or biting. She is incredibly sweet, sensitive, and affectionate.<br/>She is:<br/>• Fully potty trained with zero accidents<br/>• Extremely smart and observant<br/>• A very quick learner<br/>• Calm and low-energy inside the home<br/>• Not destructive at all<br/>• Gentle when taking treats<br/>• More motivated by praise and affection than food<br/>• A wonderful cuddler who loves being close to her person<br/>• Comfortable relaxing on the couch or bed with you<br/>• While she can be easily spooked until she is fully comfortable, she is unbothered by thunderstorms or lightning<br/>• Respectful during meals and does not beg for food<br/><br/>For such a young dog, Ella has a surprisingly calm nature indoors. Most of the time, she simply wants to nap nearby, follow you around the house, or quietly relax beside you. She thrives on routine, consistency, calm energy, and reassurance.<br/><br/>She’s still learning how to fully enjoy toys, but as she has become more secure, her playful side has slowly started to come out. She enjoys soft squeaky toys, chewing on bones, and running joyful “zoomies” around the yard with the biggest smile on her face.<br/><br/>Ella would do best in:<br/>• A calm, patient home with a predictable routine<br/>• A quieter environment without a lot of chaos<br/>• A home with a securely fenced yard<br/>• A home where she would always remain leashed on walks and outdoors when outside the fence<br/>• A female owner or female-centered household<br/>It has become very clear that Ella feels safest and most comfortable around women. She naturally relaxes more, follows more closely, and seeks comfort more easily with females. Even as her rescuer, and although I’ve been patient and extremely loving with her, she still tends to be more cautious around me simply due to my size, presence, and that I’m a male.<br/>Ella needs someone who understands that trust for a rescue dog is earned through patience, gentleness, routine, and love. In return, she will give incredible loyalty and affection.<br/><br/>This is an extremely difficult decision because Ella truly is a wonderful dog.<br/>The reality is that my lifestyle and environment are not the best fit for her long-term happiness and comfort. I’m a tall man who spends most of my time outdoors doing construction projects, running equipment, landscaping, garage work, and other loud activities. My previous Labs loved participating in all of that with me, but Ella is much more sensitive and easily startled in those environments.<br/>Because she previously ran off and can become spooked, I do not feel comfortable having her off leash in open areas or around many of the activities that are part of my daily life. She deserves a home where she feels fully relaxed, secure, and naturally comfortable.<br/>My goal is simply to find Ella the home and person she truly deserves — someone patient, calm, loving, and understanding who can continue helping her feel safe while watching her confidence grow.<br/>She is a very special dog with a beautiful heart.
