Ella's Story

Meet Ella! A personality as bright as her future!

Female / Collie Mix / 45lbs / 10 months / UTD on shots / Good with dogs

Background

When Ella first arrived in foster care, she was rescued from an difficult situation and was very sick and understandably shut down. She wasn't able to walk very far and needed some time to decompress and feel safe.

Fast forward, and we're seeing a completely different side of this lovely girl! Ella now happily enjoys long walks, loves stopping to sniff and explore, and her goofy, joyful personality is starting to shine. She's a resilient girl who is learning that the world can be a safe and happy place.

Personality

Ella is a sweet, affectionate, and eager-to-please girl. She's initially shy with new people, but she's very curious and wants to connect. When given time and allowed to approach at her own pace, she warms up beautifully. She's even started recognizing her foster's neighbours and now happily waits for treats and pets from them.
Once Ella feels comfortable, she loves to cuddle, and her tail is almost always wagging when she greets her people. She's smart, loves to learn, and is clearly happiest when she's spending time with someone she trusts.

Ideal Home

Ella is looking for a patient, understanding family who will give her the time and guidance she needs to continue building confidence. A calmer home, ideally with a fenced yard, would be wonderful for her, particularly because loud noises and busy traffic can still be overwhelming.
Her ideal person will enjoy being active with her and would love having a hiking and adventure buddy who is equally happy coming home for a cuddle afterward. Ella would thrive with someone willing to invest in positive, one-on-one training and help her navigate the world with confidence.
Ella has shown that she can live successfully in a home with another dog, although she does need appropriate boundaries around food and her crate. Her interest in squirrels and other small animals is strong, so a home without cats or small pets would be the safest fit.

Training & Activity

Ella is a wonderful candidate for training. She's eager to please, responds well to guidance, and is already learning sit, down, her name, and leash skills. She's particularly good at responding to body positioning and movement and is beginning to understand how to stay beside her person on walks.
She loves long walks, sniffing, hiking, and exploring nature and would likely excel at formal obedience training or even activities like agility. She has a happy, energetic side that is just waiting for the right outlet!
Ella is still working through some fears, particularly around loud noises, traffic, cars, and unfamiliar people and places. When something is manageable, she'll often look to her person for reassurance. If a trigger becomes overwhelming, she may try to move away from it, so secure handling and continued confidence-building are important.
She's also working on being comfortable alone and in her crate. She can take some time to settle and may whine or scratch when left, but she is making progress. Her foster has already seen moments where simply sitting with her and helping her regulate allows her to recover from a scary experience. With patience and professional guidance, Ella has tremendous potential to continue blossoming.

Summary

Ella is a gentle soul who is learning to let her happy side shine. After a difficult start, this sweet girl has already come so far. She's gone from being too unwell to enjoy a walk to eagerly exploring the world for hours, and her goofy personality is emerging more every day. Ella is affectionate, intelligent, eager to please, and ready to form a deep bond with someone who will be patient with her and help her build confidence. For the right person, she could be an incredible hiking buddy, training partner, and professional-level cuddlebug all rolled into one.

All applicants must be residents of Toronto or the GTA to apply.

Apply here to Adopt
http://seapawsrescue.org/adoptionApplication.html?

Sea Paws Rescue's Adoption Policy
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. All adult members of the household must attend the adoption interview. We prefer that applicants have lived at their current address for at least three months. This is to make sure that owners have had time to settle into their new surroundings, and provides stability for the new pup who themselves have already undergone multiple changes in a short time. Because young puppies require intensive training and care, we do not place puppies younger than 8 weeks of age in a home. Because of potential behavior/training concerns, we are very cautious when placing young pets in homes with children under the age of five. If applicants have another animal at home, they must introduce the animals properly. We want to make sure that their animal is happy with their selection and that the transition for both animals' will be relatively smooth. All adopters must take the animal to a veterinarian within one week of adoption as Sea Paws Rescue (SPR) does not screen for all diseases including, but not limited to, tick fever and heartworm. All further examinations and immunizations from the date of the adoption are at the adopter’s own expense. SPR makes no health guarantees or warranties. All adopters must understand that there will be an adjustment period and their pet may experience behavioural and/or health issues related to the change in environment. Adopters must seek professional assistance from a trainer and/or licensed veterinarian if they have concerns about issues related to the adjustment period. If at any time, for any reason, a SPR adopter decides not to keep their animal, they agree to return the animal back to a Sea Paws Rescue representative. Under no circumstance will the adopter surrender a SPR animal to a local shelter. In the event of a rehoming, no part of the adoption fee will be reimbursed.
