Edison (Special Needs)

Edison is a very special boy. He came to us as an owner surrender when his owner's health deteriorated to the point he could no longer care for Edison. Sadly, it wasn’t just the owner's health that was bad, it turns out Edison's health was not good either.<br/><br/>Edison has spent quite a bit of time at the vet, having tests run, and trying to figure out what steps were needed to get him back on track to a healthier life.<br/><br/>At only 5 years old, Edison weighs over 130 lbs. He has heartworms, a newly discovered thyroid problem, and had become blind.<br/><br/>After reviewing Edison’s records from his previous vet, we learned that in 2023, less than 24 hours after receiving what was to be the first of 3 injections to kill heartworms Edison went blind. <br/><br/>It has yet to be determined if it was the heartworm injection or the heartworms themselves that caused the blindness. No one seems to know, and sadly, it doesn’t appear to be reversible.<br/><br/>While Edison is presently, blind, overweight, heartworm-positive, and has a thyroid problem, he is a lovable, happy dog. The weight issue and heartworms should be able to be resolved and thyroid issues are easily managed by a daily pill.
