Echo's Story

Echo is made for true northern dog lovers! Those who aren't intimidated by the fact that their dog is smarter than they are and a better nature knower. Echo is the epitome of old time northern dog - those who aren't so much a product of their breed as they are their lifestyle. Oh my, this girl is an absolute amazing mix of beautiful, athletic, loving, and independent and she is on the lookout for a true partner. She loves being outside interacting with nature - camping, trail walks, hanging out on your property as you putter, running the fields with her dog friends.... anything country. Simply put, Echo can't wait to be your Subaru copilot as you head off to adventures that don't include the city.

Echo is all lab looking at the front but then at the back, whatever she is mixed with shows up in her curled tail. She is about the size of a sharpei and maybe that's where her intelligence and faith in herself come from. Her coat is short and this whole svelt package weighs about 50 lbs at 1.5 years old.

Just like her body, her personality has different halves as well. When she's in the house she's a dream. She is chill and snuggly and before you realize it, she has climbed onto your lap. She has a knack for making the couch look like a floating cloud with her black silhouette splayed out on it. She does not need a crate and chooses to sleep either on her foster's bed or beside it at night. And for someone who was born ready to rock nature, she will sleep in until her person gets up which is a total bonus because sometimes those 15km hikes deserve a good sleep in.

When she's outside, she is in her mensa place but she is not hyper or even particularly energetic. She doesn't go outside because she has tons of energy to burn, she goes because it makes her happy. Echo knows to look up in the sky for birds, that squirrels are in trees, and that there might be bugs at the base of a rotten tree. It's in her DNA so don't worry when you call her and she takes a minute. She's being an ecologist and will come with a smiling face and wagging tail when she's figured out her nature puzzle.

Echo is fostering in a busy rural home with lots of other northern dogs and a gaggle of cats. She is 100% trustworthy with the cats and she thoroughly enjoys the foster doggos. As a confident girl, Echo loves to play and is also not afraid to tell the others if she doesn't like what they're doing. If her foster siblings want to tell her to get away from the food bag, this girl can diva it up and state clearly "um, I don't think so". She has great dog skills and an offleash run around with other dogs is a daily priority before she goes to her cloud couch for some R and R.

A perfect home for Echo includes someone:
-Who admires intelligence and athleticism in their four legged.
-Who is looking for a partner, not just a leash walking buddy.
-Who lives rurally so that Echo can interact with nature every day of her life.
-Who has dog friends close by so she can have regular play dates (she often uses her two front feet to box her friends).
-Who doesn't sweat the small stuff and admires a free thinking spirit.

This girl with the warm, soft eyes is truly exceptional. If you are that person or people who make life happen, Echo is ready to be your life partner.

Echo is spayed, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated (DAPP and rabies). Her adoption fee is $750.

Adoption process includes application, virtual home visit, phone interview, reference check, meet & greet, adoption contract and $750 adoption fee.

Perfect Echo adopter - you know who you are. Northern Dogs Project's Adoption Policy
Northern dogs are not a breed but a lifestyle. Until recently most dogs were free roaming but communities are now making changes to how they want to coexist with dogs and many are now tying. Dogs are all identified by Animal Care and are adopted to families in the south as family members only. Northern dogs are smart, experienced, dog social, have been handled by kids, feel safe with women, and are slightly unsure of men at first. Dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated (core vaccines DAPP and rabies), microchipped and dewormed.
