Dutch's Story

10 month old male, needs a job and has limited training; in a foster home

We do our very best in providing truthful information about our adoptable dogs. If you do not see information about one of our dogs’ personalities, it is because we do not know much about them yet. We do appreciate a dog meet and greet to see if the dogs are compatible, an appointment is helpful but not required. We can complete a cat introduction at the shelter in a safe manner to get a sense of the dog’s behavior towards cats. With that knowledge, we will provide a blanket statement that you are ultimately responsible for keeping your cat safe. We recommend crate training for all our dogs while they adjust to a new home environment. Please bring along your family to meet the dog you’re looking at to see that it is a good fit. Also bring landlord permission for adopting a dog which includes any breed or weight restrictions.

Hawk Creek Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
Adoption Program Our flexible adoption program sends over almost two thousand animals to their forever homes each year. The adoption process includes a short Dog & Cat Adoption Form and interview process where we work to make sure each home is a suitable match for the animal being adopted. We do not do pre-applications nor charge a fee for an application. If the adopter rents their home we then contact the landlord to minimize the need for animal returns. Once the application and interview process is complete at the shelter with a staff member, an application will be filled out and our adoption agreement will be read, fees are paid, the spayed/neutered animal goes home with their new family the same day. We no longer have a HOLD policy. We will allow a family the courtesy of "holding" an animal for the same day to run and purchase supplies, or if an individual/family needs an hour or two as long as they are back the same day. No pre-payment allowed. If you don't come back, the animal is back up for adoption. There are state regulations, any animal that is adopted from the Hawk Creek Animal Shelter by an out of state adopter is recommended to have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Out of State Health Certificate) completed before the animal leaves the shelter. The Health Certificate must be signed by an Accredited Veterinarian. Most Veterinarians are unavailable on weekends for us to have this certificate issued. Please plan ahead and notify staff if you are coming in from out of state to adopt. The Health Certificates cost the adopter an extra $40 plus tax which is paid prior to the animal leaving. This is in addition to the animal’s adoption fee. We will not ship/fly an animal. All animals leaving on an airplane will be in the cabin area and not in cargo area. Each animal that goes home is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dogs are heartworm tested negative (unless specified) and cats are FELV/FIV tested negative (unless stated), given flea preventative and dewormer. We provide other medical needs, such as dentals, etc, and all animals are examined by a member of our veterinary staff. You can find our prices on www.thehskmc.com under "services tab".
