He doesn't rush into things; he prefers to observe, take it all in, and then decide how he feels. With new people, Dusty can be reserved and may need a little space at first, but give him time to watch, process, and come to you, and you'll see him start to open up in his own way.<br/><br/>What Dusty Is Like:<br/>- Independent and thoughtful - he likes to take his time getting to know you<br/>- Playful once comfortable - especially enjoys running and playing chase<br/>- A fan of fetch (even if returning the ball is optional!)<br/>- Can be selective about toys<br/>- Has a silly side - he loves playing with water and digging in his dish<br/><br/>On leash, Dusty enjoys exploring and may pull as he follows his nose and curiosity. During play, he likes to keep the interaction going and may get a little pushy when the fun ends, but he's responsive to redirection and eager to stay engaged. Dusty has made great progress and continues to build confidence. He's learning that the world can be a safe and rewarding place, especially when he's given the time and space he needs.<br/><br/>Dusty's Ideal Home Looks Like:<br/>- Kids 12+, who can respect his space and boundaries<br/>- Other dogs, pending meet-and-greets<br/>- A patient family who understands independent, sensitive dogs<br/><br/>Dusty isn't the kind of dog who will immediately climb into your lap, but he is the kind of dog who, over time, will choose you. And there's something really special about that.<br/><br/>---<br/><br/>Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Dusty is a dog who values his independence and interacts with people on his own terms. He is reserved around unfamiliar faces and has shown defensive behaviors when approached hastily, often trying to escape. However, he generally approaches cautiously after taking time to observe.<br/><br/>With familiar individuals, Dusty is more tolerant of handling and occasionally seeks interaction. He is curious and enjoys exploring; he often pulled on the average-length leash as he moved around.<br/><br/>During play, Dusty shows a playful side and enjoys running and playing chase while maintaining a respectful distance. He can be selective about his toys and loves playing fetch, although he doesn't always return the toy. During play, he sought to maintain our interaction but could be a bit pushy when playtime ended, trying to grab toys from my hand.
