Dustin's Story

Dustin was born in January 2025. This sweet pea of the bunch is named Dustin. He is one of the males of the Stranger Things litter. As he’s gotten older in my care, he has demonstrated that he does have a more dominant personality. Dustin is not aggressive, but he is assertive.

He was surrendered to me at around six months of age with his other siblings. Just like all the other puppies, he also was emaciated with severe diarrhea. He was dewormed and stools were sent out, which showed no evidence of parasites. Dustin also has an area to the back right inner leg that had a skin scrape performed and tested positive for the Demodex mite. He was treated with a dose of Bravecto from our veterinarians office which is considered adequate treatment for the small area that he had. However, due to his immune system, being so weaken due to malnutrition, he will need a total of a year and an oral flea tick medication that can treat the demodex mite to prevent re-infestation. This type of medication will be prescribed by your veterinarian. This is not contagious unless around another animal with a weakened immune system. Dustin also has a very sensitive stomach. He was originally on vet prescribed food due to the amount of diarrhea. All the puppies in his litter were having. He has since been able to transition over to Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy
Food and is tolerating that very well.

Dustin is a lover and a funny puppy. He loves to cuddle and hug. Just like the other puppies, food is a very high priority for him. To prevent resource guarding at an older age when he is much larger, on going training is something adoptive families are going to need to do to create a balanced and safe puppy. He has displayed this behavior already in a mild manner. It is something that can be worked with and managed especially since he is so young.

Dustin is also the more dominant puppy of the group. With him being a large breed dog in adulthood, regular training with resource guarding will be something he will need to make him a balanced dog.

If you are interested in adopting Dustin please go to our website,
www.secondchancemushersrescue.com
To review our adoption requirements and to fill out an online application.
