DUNCAN's Story
Meet Duncan, a handsome, affectionate, and observant puppy who loves being close to his people and is always ready for belly rubs, playtime, and plenty of adventure. This smart, high-energy boy is making great progress with potty training and basic cues, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and continues to learn more every day. With structure, patience, and continued training, Duncan will make a loyal, fun-loving companion who will happily become your shadow and fill your days with love.

Personality and Temperament

Each day, I find something new to love about Duncan—whether it's a skill he's learning or another part of his personality shining through. He is a handsome, affectionate puppy who loves people and enjoys being close. He happily accepts belly rubs and pets, and he may even crawl into your lap if invited.
So far, Duncan has been a quiet, observant pup. Even when other dogs bark at activity outside, he calmly sits and watches. If he is the only dog in the home, he will likely become your shadow—especially during the first couple of weeks. With time, he may become more independent, but he will still prefer to keep his people in sight.

Activity Level and Best Fit

Duncan is a high-energy puppy who needs plenty of activity, structure, and enrichment to stay happy and out of trouble. Because his enthusiasm could accidentally knock over small children, he would likely do best in a home without young kids.
He gets excited when greeting people and may jump up. We are working on this, and his new family should continue reinforcing calm greetings with consistency and patience.

Potty Training

Duncan is making excellent progress with potty training. He has started sitting by the back door when he needs to go outside. He has never had a #2 accident in the house; just know that frequent potty breaks are important.
When I leave for a couple of hours, Duncan stays in the laundry room behind a gate separating it from the kitchen. He has not had an accident there since his first day and has not used the pee pad provided.
When I am home, he spends time with the other dogs outside the laundry room. We go outside about every 30 minutes, and he goes potty each time. I always praise him with pets and a cheerful “good boy” after he finishes.

Other Pets

Duncan currently lives with two resident dogs and gets along very well with them. He loves to play and would likely thrive with a younger dog who can match his energy. Even in a home with other dogs, he may need a few days to feel comfortable enough to play and spend time with them.
Duncan also lives with two cats. He is curious about them and may chase the kitten to play, but he responds to a firm “uh-uh” or “leave it.” He does get a bit too rough at times so any cat interactions should be supervised.

Training and Cues: We are currently practicing the following cues:

Sit
Off
Uh-uh
Leave it

Duncan's response to these cues depends on his excitement level. Consistency and patience will be important as he continues learning.

Crate and Sleep Routine

When Duncan first arrived, he slept in his crate during the first week and made it through the night. Occasionally, he woke and whined for a few minutes, but a calm “hush” helped him settle again. Covering the crate with an old sheet at night also seemed to help him relax.
After the first week, I left the crate door open and let him sleep in the laundry room. He would sleep in the crate but rested his head outside on a blanket. Now he sleeps outside the crate on the dog bed or blanket provided.
His typical bedtime is between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m., and he wakes between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m.
