Dumpling D12676's Story

Dumpling is a busy, silly, affectionate girl who wants to know where her people are and what everyone is doing. She loves to lean against you like a Great Dane, hold hands, soak up scratches, and squirm and burrow until she finds the perfect cozy spot. She even sleeps on a blankie near her foster family's bed or crawls up for extra nighttime comfort.

Dumpling is curious and eager to explore, and she quickly decided the resident cats and dog needed to be her friends. She play bows, bounces around, and hopes everyone will join her for a good chase session. She does bark and chase the cats when trying to play, so she'll need a feline friend who can handle her exuberant style and humans who can help her learn respectful play. She takes her cues from the resident dog and has happily greeted new people, too.

She's still figuring out her favorite toys, but happily carries soft toys, balls, and even the occasional mysterious household item around the house. She has a talent for tucking things into her nest without chewing them-so if your dirty laundry mysteriously disappears, Dumpling may simply be helping with the tidying! She loves Greenies and Whimzees and gets especially playful when she's excited. Sometimes her humans become the best toy of all.

Outside, Dumpling is enthusiastic and can really zoom! She does best with a harness and will need continued help with leash manners. Walking with another dog may help her learn the ropes. She has plenty of energy and sometimes gets even sillier after activity instead of settling down-think toddler fighting a nap! She's intelligent, curious, and learning more every day.

Dumpling has had no potty accidents and holds it overnight without any issues. She is still working on crate comfort; sometimes she settles and rests, while other times she cries or chews at the door. Even her favorite treat doesn't convince her that the crate is wonderful, so patience and positive training will be important.

Dumpling is still learning that new people, places, sounds, and experiences are nothing to worry about. Unexpected noises or quick movements can startle her, and she may skitter back if approached too quickly. She doesn't cower or hide, though, and once she has a chance to take things in, she is eager to reconnect. Every new experience helps her gain confidence.

With her floppy ears, tongue hanging out the side of her mouth, occasional single-tooth lip curl, and goofy cartoon-dog expressions, Dumpling is impossible not to love. She is one of the sweetest, most loving dogs her foster family has met and has all the makings of a wonderful lifelong companion.
