Dumplin's Story

If you have questions or to inquire about adoption please fill out an application at www.marshallsdogrescue.com

Hi. My name is Dumplin. The vet thinks I am about 2 years old based on my teeth and the fact that I had puppies. I have been spayed and have received my vaccinations. They think I am a Boston Terrier and Beagle mix. I have slowly been coming out of my shell and showing who I am as I become more comfortable and my world is more predictable.

I am a cuddle bug and like to give hugs and kisses to anyone I meet. I would love to snuggle in your lap or next to you.... although my foster family does not let me up on the furniture or their beds.

My foster family doesn't think I have a mean bone in my body. I have not met anyone on our walks that I don't like including men, women, young children, older children and older people. I have not been tested with children who are running around me but my foster family thinks I would be OK with some guidance if I got too over excited. I may be medium in size but I am solid so I may knock over smaller children by accident.

I like to meet dogs of all sizes on our walks and I will greet them politely. I love playing with the other dogs at the dog park. I behaved appropriately when some of the other dogs were barking at me and when a lot of dogs wanted to meet me at the same time.

I don't seem to be bothered by things I see or noises that I hear like cars, trucks, motorcycles, school buses, skate boards, bicycles, or strollers. My foster family thinks I will be OK to go to outdoor events.

I am learning to walk with a loose leash but find it difficult when there are a lot of distractions like people, dogs, smells and especially squirrels. I have not met any cats yet. I have seen them at a distance.

Over time I have been finding my voice. My foster family do not consider me a barker. I will give a soft growl/bark to let you know when I see someone coming. When I am in my crate, I will give a loud whine or bark to let you know that I want to come with you when you are leaving or that I want to be with you in the other room but I will settle down after a bit though.

I do use my crate for naps and for sleeping at night. At first I may object but I do settle down after a while especially if I have a chew toy in my crate.

I am mostly house trained although my foster family does take me outside often. I still need to learn how to tell my foster family that I need to pee/pooh in between outings so I have had a few accidents.

I have started to play with toys and like to chew so my foster family has to keep a close eye on me to make sure I only chew things that I should be chewing. I love my chew toy filled with peanut butter, my nylon bone and stuffed toys. I haven't figured out how to play "fetch" with my foster family yet but I'm sure I will in the future.

I like to please my people and have been working hard to learn basic commands like sit, come, off, leave it and drop it as well as a few others. My foster family has been using a "clicker", treats (which I love) and a lot of praise when training me.

As a potential furever family I need from you:

Patience and willingness to continue my training with basic commands, walking with loose leash, and housetraining.
Understanding that I am still learning so I will have some accidents and may chew a few stuffed toys and shoes
A home with structure, routine and clear rules for me
Someone who will love me and give me lots of cuddles.
