DUKE * WAIVED FEE's Story
Duke is in search of a loving home, ideally a foster-to-adopt situation, or even just kind-hearted individuals who would be willing to help sponsor his stay in the boarding facility he's at.

This sweet handsome boy deserves a warm and caring environment where he can thrive and feel safe. If you have the capacity to open your heart and home, or if you can assist in helping us provide a safe environment for him while he awaits a permanent placement, your support could make a world of difference in his life.

Duke came to our rescue on May 30, 2024 after being attacked with a machete alongside his mom. Afterwards his owners left him laying there suffering for a week. When we picked him up he was rushed to the veterinarian. He was immediately hospitalized and underwent surgery, he was released on June 1, 2024 where he headed into boarding. He is now healthy and has spent over 295 days praying for his chance to shine. It has been a long road to recovery and hopefully soon he'll get his happy ending.

Duke is approximately 3.5-4 years old. His mom is a boxer mix and his dad was a lab mix. He is sweet but has the typical teenager energy level. He wants love, attention, snacks and playtime. He is fully vaccinated, on ProHeart12, microchipped and neutered.

His ideal home would be somewhere he has a like minded playmate or a home where can be the only dog. He is dog selective but does love to play with submissive non confrontational dogs.

Duke would be happy romping in the yard while you do a little landscaping. Dont let that fool you though, in his mind he is a 60lb lap dog who will curl up in your lap on the couch for some love.

He has improved tremendously walking on a leash. He has some basic obediance training and has decent manners. He appears to be crate trained and if we had to guess, he is house trained. However he may need a short refresher in a home environment.

We have not had Duke around kids although there were multiple young children in his past home.

He is not cat friendly and does have prey drive when felines are involved.

Duke does have a lopsided smile and is missing a bottom K9 tooth... lasting effects of being attacked with a machete. Some scars last a lifetime, thankfully her emotional/mental injuries seem to have healed just fine.
