Duke Kirby's Story

Duke Kirby is a 5-year-old Rottweiler who has clearly been through more than any dog should. He is only 75lbs right now even though he should be well over 100. He is severely emaciated, has heartworms, and is recovering from neglect. Despite all of that, he is still one of the sweetest and most gentle boys you will ever meet.

A kind woman found him wandering outside a Walgreens. He walked straight up to her as if he had been waiting for someone to notice him. She got him scanned and learned he had been adopted from a shelter back in May. Somewhere along the way, he was discarded. We do not know much about the first five years of his life, but we do know he deserved more care than he received.

Despite everything, Duke Kirby is an absolute sweetheart. He loves people and thrives on affection. He has an easy low to medium energy level. He rides well in the car, listens beautifully, and is extremely gentle on leash. He has not met dogs or kids in his foster home yet, but he is great with cats so we feel confident he will do well once properly introduced.

Medically, he is in good shape aside from heartworms. He begins his first injection next week.

This boy is already proving that a good dog can survive a bad chapter. Now he just needs someone who will help him write the next one!Ā #sdfdukekirby

Check out #sdfdukekirby on Facebook or Instagram or streetdogfoundation.com/pup-profiles/duke-kirby for more information and pictures!

*Behaviors not listed have yet to be tested.
