Duke's Story

At 12 years young, Duke is a handsome mixed-breed gentleman with a heart just as big as his soulful eyes. Found as a stray, we were able to locate his previous owner, who made the incredibly difficult decision to surrender him due to life circumstances — through absolutely no fault of Duke’s own. Now, this sweet old man is simply searching for a safe, calm place to spend his golden years surrounded by love.

Duke’s frosted grey face and a few lumps and bumps (all benign fatty deposits) are signs of a life well-lived. But don’t let that silver muzzle fool you — we think this distinguished gentleman still has plenty of good years ahead of him!

He adores people. The moment Duke spots someone, his tail starts wagging — and the closer you get, the faster it goes! He thrives on pets, affection, and being near his humans. Loyal and protective of those he loves, Duke forms strong bonds and will happily be your devoted companion.

He enjoys exploring the outdoors and taking in all the smells and sunshine. Duke is a little hard of hearing, so sometimes he may not notice you calling him right away — but once he sees or hears you, he comes running back with that signature wagging tail.

Duke gets along well with other dogs and has been mostly indifferent to them so far. He does fine with cats and kids, making him a wonderful option for many different types of households. He enjoys chewing on bones, but above all else, Duke’s favorite activity is lounging in a comfy spot — preferably in a sunny patch — where he can nap peacefully or simply observe the world around him.

He is fully potty-trained and crate-trained, and would transition beautifully into a loving home ready to spoil a sweet senior boy.

If you’re looking to open your heart and home to a gentle, affectionate companion who will reward you with unwavering loyalty and endless tail wags, Duke is ready to meet you. Help this special boy enjoy the comfort, love, and security he deserves in his golden years.

If you’re interested in adopting, please fill out our application, and someone will be in touch with you shortly!
https://animalwelfarefriends.org/adopt/application/
