Duckie's Story
Meet Duckie!

This handsome fella ended up on the euthanasia list at a high kill shelter in Houston after only a few days because he was to scared to walk. Thankfully a wonderful foster Mom saw he's plea for help and offered to foster saving his life.

Duckie is a beautifully unique soul who is still learning how safe and wonderful people can be. He’s an intelligent little escape artist with a curious mind and a gentle heart, and he’s looking for someone who understands that love doesn’t always look loud or cuddly right away. He clearly had a very hard start to life and didn't receive the socialization he needed to be a confident guy. He has shown zero aggression ever.

Once Duckie bonds with you, his love runs deep he just prefers to show it from a respectful distance. He finds comfort in calm spaces, often choosing his safe spot under the bed when things feel chaotic, and he truly thrives alongside his four legged friends. Other dogs help him feel secure and confident. Because our #1 priority it placing dogs in homes that are a great fit for all parties involced we will only be considering applications with another friendly dog already in the home. It isn't a must for all dogs, but it is for him. He needs K9 companionship to be happy and thrive.

Duckie does well with kids, especially older children who understand boundaries and can let him move at his own pace. He’s crate trained, potty trained, and settles beautifully in his crate. Around the house, he’s easygoing happy to lounge on his bed and quietly people watch.

He loves exploring the outdoors and will need a fully fenced, secure backyard to keep him safe while he enjoys fresh air and sniffing adventures. Most of all, Duckie needs a patient, compassionate human who is willing to give him time, consistency, and unconditional understanding.

Duckie is estimated to 2yrs old and weighs 24lbs. He is currently going through treatment for heartworm disease and will be available to transport to his forever home mid-February once completed.

All of our dogs are located in foster homes in Houston Texas, however we transport for adopters many places around the country. The adoption fee is $600 and includes the cost of transport.

If you'd like to learn more about Duckie and our adoption process apply today:
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DSTR/Dog
