Meet Duchess (formerly Rose) <br/><br/>Please welcome Rose, now known as Duchess, back to the Saving Paws Rescue AZ family.<br/><br/>Duchess was originally adopted from our rescue three years ago after raising her famous "Wine Puppies" litter. Her family has loved and cared for her deeply, and making the difficult decision to return her was not done lightly. Unfortunately, over time Duchess began showing aggression toward the small female dogs in the home, making it unsafe for her to continue living in that environment.<br/><br/>Duchess is approximately 4 years old and is a beautiful German Shepherd weighing around 70 pounds. She is healthy, spayed, house-trained, and accustomed to living as a beloved family companion. She is up to date on routine veterinary care and has no known health concerns.<br/><br/>Duchess thrives when she has a strong bond with her people. She is incredibly loyal, intelligent, and affectionate with the adults she trusts. She loves being near her family, whether that means joining you on a hike, relaxing on the couch, or keeping watch over the home from her favorite spot. She knows several commands including sit, stay, shake, and down, and she walks nicely on a harness and leash.<br/><br/>As a true German Shepherd, Duchess takes her job of protecting her family seriously. She is naturally alert and protective of her home but is not an excessive barker. She is highly intelligent, remembers people well, and forms strong relationships with those she sees regularly.<br/><br/>Duchess is looking for a home that understands her needs and is willing to give her time to decompress and build trust. We are asking that introductions be taken very slowly. She should not be placed in a home with small dogs. She may do well as an only dog or potentially with the right large male dog, but proper introductions and management will be essential.<br/><br/>She has lived successfully in a busy household with teenagers and enjoys being involved in daily family life. Due to her size, protective nature, and lack of experience with young children, a home with older children or adults would be the best fit.<br/><br/>Duchess is a wonderful dog who deserves a second chance with a family committed to understanding her and helping her succeed.
