Drogo's Story

Drogo is still looking for his forever home and it has to be because his PERFECT family hasn't seen him yet. He's had a rough start- surrendered to us when his elderly owner couldn't care for him, then adopted by his foster who had to surrender him back when his housing situation changed. His current foster LOVES him and says he needs the very best and definitely forever home. He's a small breed mix estimated to be about 4-5 years old and weighs about 23 lbs. His foster says:
"Drogo would do well in a home where his people are home more than not during the day. He loves to be with his people. He's also been so sweet and friendly to everyone he's met in our home. He did very well with groups of 10-12 people on Thanksgiving and Christmas. No bad behaviors at all. He adapts so quickly. He's done well with children with the understanding that he is not to be picked up. He absolutely hates it. If you need to get him in the bath- just be quick about it and pick him up from behind. Once in the bath, oh my, what a prince.
He gets excited to go on car rides but still has some anxiety in the car. Maybe with more exposure he'll improve. For now he's best riding in a crate. Drogo loves to play tug of war with his rope toy (just be sure to give him a win sometimes). He can get obsessive over that toy in particular. (Sometimes I put it away and it does go night-night shut in another room most nights by 8 pm). He likes you to also throw it and he'll put it down for you if you say drop it and leave it but he'll bark and his growl can sound scary. It's just his play sound! I just walk away if he gets too feisty and he's good with it. He's very fast so play with a small child is not advised. He'd likely do best with kids aged 10 and up.
Drogo loves to go night-night in his crate and often goes to bed before I do if I open his door. He sleeps so well.
He loves a routine and seems to know what to expect throughout the day. He loves to be on the move but also can rest and relax half on/half off your lap. If you lay down, he's there! Drogo would do fine with a fenced in play area where he can run full-tilt. He has bursts of energy but then he peters out. He does that on a long leash here and that works too. He loves to go for a walk. He'll pull for the first 10 minutes then walks pretty well. He's just so excited. He can be leash reactive still with people or animals. He just wants to meet you is how I see it. He's strong and can pull pretty hard for his size. He's much better off leash/indoors with both people and animals. Drogo has never marked on anything or chewed on anything that wasn't his. He's a very good listener overall. More so indoors than outdoors. (There are less distractions!) He knows wait, stay, and come back. He's very trainable and intelligent. He's a wonderful companion!"

If you think you might be interested in adopting Drogo or just want to get pre-approved to adopt through us, please fill out an application on our website. Approvals are valid for one year and you will not have the waiting period of an application if you see a dog that you like! Our Mission
Hi, I’m Charlie. This dog rescue organization is named after me. My sister and I were in cages, sleeping on a cold concrete floor and getting lousy food. It was crowded, dirty, very scary and they had to make room because more dogs were coming. If we hadn’t been rescued, things would not have ended well for us. Some...
