Doug's Story

Meet Doug

At just 15 weeks old, Doug has already lived through more than any puppy ever should. He and his brother Kevin came into Dog Squad after their mom and dad were killed by their former owner. In the midst of heartbreak, these boys have shown us something incredible: resilience.

Doug is a Great Pyrenees puppy through and through—goofy, stubborn, fluffy, and deeply loving. He has that classic Pyr mix of independence and attachment that keeps you laughing one minute and melting the next.

Of the two brothers, Doug is the bolder one. He’s curious. Observant. He watches the world carefully before stepping into it. He’s beginning to test his confidence, exploring new spaces and experiences while still checking back in with his humans for reassurance. He’s learning about healthy boundaries and how to regulate himself when the world feels big—because for a baby who has experienced trauma, sometimes it does.

Right now, Doug struggles with being away from his people. He wants his humans close—always. Physical closeness equals safety in his world. And honestly? After what he’s been through, that makes sense. As he grows, we’ll continue gently building his confidence and independence so he can become the steady, grounded Pyr he’s meant to be.

Doug will require:
• Prior Great Pyrenees or related Livestock Guardian Dog experience
• A home committed to raising him as a companion only (not a working livestock guardian dog)
• Patience, structure, and understanding of the unique temperament and needs of LGDs

Great Pyrenees aren’t just big fluffy dogs—they are thoughtful, protective, strong-willed guardians bred to think independently. They need secure fencing, consistent leadership, and a family who understands that “stubborn” is often just “I’m thinking about it.” If you know, you know.

Doug’s future is still being written. And we believe the right family—the one who understands his breed, honors his story, and is ready to help him grow into his full potential—is out there.

If you feel like Doug might be meant for your home—and you meet these requirements—you can submit an adoption application at:

Let’s give this brave little boy the safe, steady forever he deserves.

Instagram: @dogsquad_sc
Facebook: @dogsquadsc
