Doug's Story

Meet Doug! Doug is a happy, affectionate puppy who gets genuinely excited to be around people. When you stop by to visit, he's quick to light up - wiggly, eager, and ready to soak up all the attention he can get. Volunteers describe him as super lovable, and it doesn't take much time with him to see why.

He has a playful side and plenty of puppy energy, especially at first, but Doug also really loves being close. He often seeks out snuggles, happily climbing into laps and settling in for pets once he's had a moment to get his excitement out. That balance of playful and cuddly makes him a really fun companion.

Doug is food-motivated and already starting to learn - he's been introduced to basics like “sit” and shows interest in engaging and figuring things out. Like many puppies, he can get a little mouthy or excitable at times, but he responds well to redirection and will benefit from continued guidance as he grows.

Right now, Doug is spending time socializing in his kennel while he heals, but he still makes the most of every interaction - whether that's play, treats, or just being close to someone.

Doug would do well in a home ready for a playful, affectionate puppy who loves attention and will thrive with continued structure, training, and plenty of snuggles.

Doug at a Glance:

Age: 5 months
Personality: Happy, affectionate, wiggly, playful, people-oriented
Training: Food-motivated; learning basics like “sit”; would benefit from continued training and structure
Favorite Activities: Snuggling, getting pets, playtime, treats, and being close to his people

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
