Dottie's Story

Dottie had a rough start in her early life. She was severely neglected as a young pup and was locked in a small (too small for her) crate 24/7 with little social interaction. Her foster has been able to get her out of her shell in her new environment with patience and love. <br/><br/>From Dottie's foster: "Dottie, an incredibly sweet girl, initially seems a bit shy and anxious. However, she quickly warms up to her surroundings. She's crate-trained and potty-trained (she rings a bell to signal when she needs to go). She's also learned how to go up and down the stairs and how to sit and give paw. Her food motivation makes training her enjoyable. Dottie adores her humans and her foster brother, with whom she spends countless hours playing. She loves toys, but her favorite are balls. Once she feels comfortable with you, she offers the most affectionate hugs. She leans her head right into you, looking at you as if to express her gratitude for saving her life. Dottie is a loving companion to kids and dogs and would be a wonderful addition to your family. "<br/><br/>Dottie would love to have her own forever family - someone who can give her some time to acclimate slowly so she can blossom as she has with her foster. Can it be you? Dottie Dottie is about 9-10 months old and 41 pounds. <br/><br/>Update: Dottie had tested Lyme positive and has already completed her antibiotic treatment. She is feeling great, running and playing with her foster family. Dottie is ready to go to her forever home.<br/><br/>We do NOT ship our animals. One Step Closer Animal Rescue (O.S.C.A.R.)'s Adoption Policy
Our dogs and cats are not first come/first serve. We place pets with the home that is the best fit for them. Not all animals are good in all homes, whether it’s their personalities, nature, or breed. We base our decision on what’s best for the dog or cat and the family. Thank you for understanding! Our Shelter is now operating. However, please note that the shelter is NOT open to the public and is by appointment only and only for persons with approved applications on file. Some may ask, "Why isn't the shelter open for walk through visits? Why do I have to make an appointment to see the animals?" At O.S.C.A.R., one of our highest priorities is the health and well-being of the animals in our care. Unlike city shelters or pounds, whose residents are in place for a short time, as a no-kill shelter, our pets can be with us for a longer period of time. The shelter is the only safe place and home they know. When strangers, even well-meaning ones looking to adopt, walk through the shelter, it stresses our animals. We make appointments for potential adopters to meet our dogs either in our Bark Yard or one of our meeting rooms. We'll spend as much time as you need and introduce you to as many animals as you'd like to meet in order to make the best match and help you find the perfect new family member! Adoption Process 1. Fill out an application 2. Meet & Greet 3. Adoption contract & adoption fee
