Doris's Story

It was a cold, rainy July day in Jesup GA, when we first saw Doris. She and her younger companion Josie were found together in the McDonald's parking lot, digging through the trash just to survive. Soaked to the bone and clearly exhausted, they were trying to find shelter and scraps in the middle of a downpour. It was clear they had been out in the elements for quite some time, but what struck us most wasn't just their condition - it was how gentle they were despite their situation. Doris seems to be a little older than Josie, who is around 7 years old. She does not have a microchip, and judging by her condition, it is clear she has not known kindness in a long time. It took a few days of patience to earn her trust, but once that door opened, Doris completely blossomed. Today, she is one of the most affectionate, loving dogs we have ever had the joy of caring for. Doris is a low energy, easygoing girl who just wants to be near people. She adores pets and any kind of attention. She's happiest curled up nearby or following you from room to room. She's the kind of dog who doesn't demand much - njust a soft bed, a little love, and the safety of a forever home. She's also getting along well with one of our small dogs Randy (a chihuahua-Beagle mix), so we think she'd well in a home with other friendly dogs, especially calmer ones like herself. Doris came to us in rough shape - she had a severe flea allergy, a fungal skin in fection, and multiple internal parasites (including hookworms and coccidia). Her skin was red and raw, and she had lost quite a bit of fur. <br/>But with proper treatment and lots of TLC, her coat is filling in beautifully, and she's starting to look - and feel - so much healthier. She's been treated for all of her ailments and is up to date on her rabies vaccine. She is heartworm positive, but the vet informed us that we caught it early and she is being treated accordingly. It is clear she has had several litters and she does not appear to have been spayed. Doris is currently working on her b asic commans, leash walking and socialization. She is making geat progress and continues to gain confidence each day. We believe Doris would thrive in a variwety of home settings - she doesn't need tons of exercise and prefers a slower-paced lifestyle. Whether you're retired, work from home, or have a quieter family environment, Doris will fit right in. She just needs someone to love her the way she's always deserved. Doris has known abandonment and hardship. Now, she's ready to know love, stability, and the joy of belonging. If you are looking for a calm, sweet, loyal companion who will melt into your heart and stay there, Doris may be your perfect match.
