Dora's Story
Meet Dora!

Dora is an 8-month-old mixed breed with the most beautiful muted coloring and an even more beautiful soul to match. This sweet girl got her name after being found exploring a kind family’s property—and let’s just say, the name fits perfectly!

Dora is a curious little adventurer at heart and absolutely loves exploring the world around her—especially when she has a dog friend by her side. She has proven to be incredibly dog-friendly and adaptable, adjusting her play style beautifully to match whatever pup she’s with. Whether it’s romping around with energetic friends or gently hanging out with calmer dogs, Dora just seems to “get” other dogs in such a special way.

In fact, Dora has become one of staff’s favorite playgroup dogs because of how naturally social and thoughtful she is with other pups. We’ve even watched her give calm, appropriate corrections to rowdy dogs simply by placing a paw gently on their back to help them reset when play gets a little too wild. She truly is a dog’s dog.

Because of this, Dora would likely thrive in a home with another playful dog companion to help guide her, play with her, and continue building her confidence. Another dog in the home could help teach her routines, appropriate boundaries, and all the little “how to dog” skills that puppies learn from one another so naturally.

That being said, having another dog in the home is absolutely NOT a requirement for Dora. If someone falls in love with her and doesn’t currently have another dog, we still think she could do wonderfully—as long as her future family understands that puppies require a lot of time, structure, engagement, and enrichment. Dora is still learning how to exist in a home environment, and without another dog to help occupy and guide her, her humans will need to be committed to keeping both her brain and body stimulated regularly throughout the day. Because as puppies do… if you don’t give them something productive to do, they’ll usually find something on their own.

For such a young puppy, Dora also has an impressively gentle demeanor. She isn’t overly mouthy or jumpy, and her manners are already starting to shine through. She absolutely LOVES affection and bonds very quickly with her people. Mouth rubs, chin scratches, and gentle head pets are basically the fastest way straight to Dora’s heart—and honestly, may also be the secret recipe for getting her to take the cutest nap ever.

Dora can sometimes be nervous around new people, places, and experiences simply because she hasn’t had much exposure to the world outside of shelter life yet. Don’t be surprised if you get a bark or little growl when first meeting her—but don’t let that discourage you. Dora warms up quickly when approached patiently, especially if treats and gentle affection are involved. Once she realizes you’re safe, her sweet and loving personality comes shining right out.

Because she is still a puppy, Dora would thrive in a home ready to continue helping her build confidence through basic training, routine, structure, and positive experiences. She’s a smart girl who truly wants guidance and connection with her people. Another dog in the home may make parts of puppyhood easier, but human guidance and training will still be incredibly important for helping Dora continue growing into the amazing adult dog she’s so capable of becoming.

Dora truly has one of those special personalities that feels impossible not to root for. Whether you’re looking for a playful companion for your current dog or a loving best friend to grow alongside, Dora is ready to give her whole heart to the people willing to help her bloom.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you would like to meet Dora, please submit an application for her on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. She is spayed, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee is $300, which covers part of the medical care she will receive.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth.
Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
