Donnie's Story

Donnie is a sweet, athletic guy with a heart of gold and a lot of life ahead of him. He’s got some nice ball drive, but at this stage it’s not quite enough to support a full‑time career in detection. That said, with time, the right partner, and continued confidence‑building, he could absolutely enjoy part‑time detection, hobby sports, or other mentally engaging activities.

Donnie didn’t have the easiest start in life, but he came through it with an impressively positive attitude. He’s resilient, thoughtful, and genuinely trying his best—one of those dogs who just deserves a stable, loving home where he can settle in and thrive.

He’d be happiest with an active lifestyle. Donnie loves to play ball, enjoys staying busy, and would be a great fit for someone who wants a dog to share adventures with—whether that’s daily outings, hobby sports, enrichment games, or just being part of an on‑the‑go family. He’s not the type to want a couch‑only life.

In new or busy environments, Donnie can take a little time to feel fully confident, but he’s maturing into himself nicely and shows steady progress.

Overall, Donnie is a good‑hearted, fun companion who will shine in a home that offers structure, activity, and kindness. If you’re looking for a dog who wants to do life with you—and maybe chase a ball or two along the way—Donnie could be your guy.

National Disaster Search Dog Foundation's Adoption Policy
Anyone looking to give a great home to a great dog is welcome to submit an application. We do give preference to applicants located in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties so that SDF staff can offer in-person support when needed. We seek adopters who can provide love, good care, and plenty of exercise. All of our dogs are active, high-energy, high-drive canines—while they may not be suited for search work, they can make wonderful companions for the right home. Lifetime Support: Adoption doesn’t end when you take your dog home. We offer ongoing support for the life of your dog, including access to our team of professional trainers for any questions or concerns. Our goal is to help you and your dog succeed together, every step of the way.
