Donnie's Story

This handsome guy is Donnie and he’s 3.5 years old, neutered, current on his vaccines, weighs in at 65 pounds, and he’s being fostered in Spokane, WA. He has an all-black muzzle with a small white stripe up the center of his very boopable nose.

Donnie is potty and crate trained. The first couple of nights in his foster home, he whined after going into the kennel for about 10-15 mins, but this became less and less over the first week, and now at bedtime, with a quick command and a small treat, he is in his kennel without any problems! He sleeps all night and will wait patiently to be let out in the morning.

Donnie has some of the best wiggle butt moves ever seen with a Boxer! He is so happy to see his people when they return home and is likely unaware of his body wiggles and could probably knock over small children without nefarious intention but settles easily when asked. He will lean in for cuddles when given the chance and enjoys giving hugs when invited up; he listens well to "off" if he tries to take a hug without an invite. He likes to get on the furniture and is easily redirected with a quick "off" command.

Donnie was slowly introduced to his canine foster sister, and they have done well together. He shows good play cues and honors her boundaries when asked and doesn’t show any dominant behavior. Donnie is probably best in a home with no cats. He makes chase in the yard with the resident cats and while they are separated in the house, he has shown curious behavior toward them, with difficulty in redirection. He is curious about squirrels and birds on walks but hasn't tried to chase them. Donnie wants to meet every person and dog he encounters on walks; however, no dog introductions have been made.

Donnie loves his toys! He has a tennis ball that he likes to chase around the house; he especially likes tough toys with squeakers. Having his people participate in the play is such a joy to him! He will also play by himself and is happy wandering around with his toys. He is a Velcro dog, and follows his foster mom all over the house, and out in the yard. Donnie has a moderately high energy level. If his people are moving around, he is moving around. If everyone has settled and is sitting, he will usually lay down as well. If he isn't into chillin' at that time, he will bring toys to you to play with while you're sitting.

Donnie enjoys having a backyard and loves to do zoomies whenever he’s outside. He will also consistently move around the perimeter of the yard checking all areas that may allow him to practice his escape moves. He also watches people going in/out of the doors of the home, plotting his next game of "catch Donnie if you can". In wide open spaces, he will not recall as he treats it as a fun game to play. He initially demonstrated this behavior in his foster’s backyard, however, he quickly realized he would be left outside alone and so following his people inside was his choice.

Donnie gets pretty excited to be out and about for walks and could use some work on pulling, however, he will settle into a loose leash walk after about 10 mins. He currently uses a Freedom No-pull harness which helps. He is pretty ready to go home after about 2.5 miles. He also happens to ride really well in the car will make a great road trip buddy.

Donnie enjoys his meals out of a slow feeder bowl and will help himself to any other dog food left out. He hasn't been noted to be especially interested in food on the counters; however, his family tries to limit the temptations.

Donnie is such a sweet guy! He looks to his people for guidance and really wants to please. He wants to be part of the family and is so happy to be doing whatever his people are doing. If you’re looking to add a lovable, active pup to your family, then Donnie could be the one. Get your application in today – www.mustluvboxersrescue.com/adopt.

MustLuvBoxers Rescue's Adoption Policy
Locations we serve: We are currently accepting applications from residents in Washington, Oregon and Northern Idaho (close to the WA border), and some areas of Canada. While we serve the majority of these areas, in some cases we cannot find a volunteer to home check certain areas of these states. For that reason, your application may be denied. Same Sex Dogs in a Household: Our rescue does not adopt dogs out to households that already have a dog of the same sex. This is due to increased aggression and dominance issues among same sex dogs. This also applies to dogs who are frequent visitors in your home. In some cases, we allow dogs with a 9+ year age difference to be placed in the same home. Application Types: Below you will be asked to select what type of application you would like to submit. Adoption Application: you are interested in adopting a rescue dog who is in foster care. Foster-to-Adopt Application: you are interested in fostering a dog for a three week period with the intention to adopt. If you decide the dog is not a good fit, you will continue fostering until the dog is adopted out through the standard adoption process. This process requires you to be on Facebook to interact with our support group after your application is processed. Foster Application: you are interested in providing a safe, structured and loving home for a rescue dog until they find their forever home through the adoption process. All supplies and medical expenses will be covered. This process requires you to be on Facebook to interact with our support group after your application is processed. What to Expect When Fostering or Fostering-to-Adopt: There is no perfect dog when fostering. Each dog that comes into foster care has their own unique personalities, many that just need love and care to work through undesirable behaviors. Most of these dogs have never had a safe, secure or loving home like you will be providing them. We will never ask a foster to take a human-aggressive or a dog with extreme behavioral issues. Those dogs go to our seasoned fosters or trainers. Every dog that comes into MLBR will have different quirks or issues; whether it be needing a single dog home, medical, crate and potty training, working through their fears, crate rotation, etc. Crate training a dog is not a punishment. Utilizing a crate in the home creates a safe space for the dog to decompress. Each dog will have different comfort levels, and not all are going to be social, which is okay; it doesn’t mean they’re not adoptable.
