Donnie's Story

Meet Donnie the dog with heart!
His story is a tale of terror. He is a submissive gentle soul who fell into the wrong hands and was used as a bait dog. A good samaritan witnessed the gruesome attack and the owner of the dogs laughing. A group of people ran over to save him and then rushed him to the Hesperia animal shelter. He went in for emergency surgery.

One of the Shelter employees fostered him so he could heal in a home environment on a soft bed instead of the hard concrete floor of the kennel in the shelter. She said he was very sweet and gentle and just wanted affection. Her dog was not welcoming so poor Donnie went back to the shelter. Sadly due to overcrowding he was put on the kill list. The rescue coordinator reached out and told me the gruesome details and begged me to save him. We were very fortunate to find a Foster family that he has been with since last August.
He has been wonderful with the small children from day one. He has not shown any fearful behavior with the family and was just a love bug from the get-go. He has a lot of heart to endure what he did and not have his personality phased by it. He is 2 1/2 years old, up-to-date on vaccines and neutered, housebroken, love walks, loves to cuddle and will watch over the children and would make a wonderful addition to any family .

Healing Hounds Rescue's Adoption Policy
I have them fill out my foster/adoption contract and after receiving I call to vet them and understand their abilities and the type of dog they would like. We have a good hour long convo of everything from slow introductions, training, positive reinforcement, needs of the dog, and the adopters expectations. I either do a home check or ask for pictures of where the dog would be staying, sleeping, eating. Then we plan a meet and greet with adopter and adopters other animals or family members to see how the dog reacts. I want to set up my rescues for success and make sure it's a good fit for everyone.
