Domino's Story

Domino’s story didn’t start out easy—but you’d never know it from the gentle, happy soul he is today. This handsome 8–10 year old herding mix arrived at Herding Haven the day after Christmas, rescued from a hoarding situation and carrying more than just extra weight. At 81 pounds—nearly double his ideal weight—Domino had been overfed a steady diet of fast food and neglect. But what he gained in pounds, he never lost in heart. Enter his foster mom—part chef, part personal trainer, and 100% devoted. With patience, daily walks, and a nourishing home-cooked diet, Domino has already shed nearly 20 pounds and is well on his way to his goal weight. He still has about 10 pounds to go, but he’s feeling better every day—and it shows in his brighter eyes and lighter कदम (yes, he’s got a little pep in his step now!).
Because of his past, Domino also had to undergo extensive dental work and lost 18 teeth. As a result, he’ll need to stay on a soft diet for life—but don’t worry, he’s thriving on meals of rice, quinoa, veggies, and lean proteins like chicken and ground turkey. Mealtime is still one of his favorite parts of the day!
And who is Domino at his core? A true gentleman. He’s fully house-trained, calm and well-mannered in the home, and has a heart big enough for everyone he meets. He absolutely adores people, gets along beautifully with other dogs, and is even cat-friendly. Chickens, however, are a firm “no thank you” in Domino’s book. Domino is neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on his vaccinations. Domino is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for much—just a cozy place to rest, a loving hand to pet him, and someone to continue cheering him on as he becomes his healthiest, happiest self. He’s already come so far. Now he just needs a forever home to finish his journey. If you are interested in meeting Domino, email kathie@Herdinghaven.org
