Dolly's Story
Born September 6, 2022, Dolly was originally purchased online by her original owner, as a puppy and lived with a senior her life to date.

Dolly never received any professional training, was not exercised enough for her needs and was basically able to run the home, so she was quite a bratty dog; destructive with toys, separation anxiety, mouthy and demanding. Her owner surrendered her to the shelter as they were no longer a match.

Her owner did state that Dolly was afraid of men. And did scratch her when she tried to take a stuffed toy away from Dolly, which was the final reason to surrender. She also said Dolly: eats her poop, pulls on leash, doesn't listen to commands, steals food or objects (even kidsā toys), runs after small animals outside and can urinate out of emotions

A VERY DIFFERENT REALITY: Mattie's Place agreed to welcome her into our rescue and with guidance, structure and boundaries in place, Dolly is pretty much a perfect little chihuahua mix in foster care. We are absolutely not seeing the issue her owner stated to the shelter. Read more from her foster down below in the profile.

At 3 years old, Dolly is up to date medically and currently weighs in at 4.5 KG / 10 pounds.

She is a great little dog that craves direction and is super smart and willing to learn everything she's missed out on in her early puppy months.

Dolly will thrive with the support of professional training. She's a dog that is an absolute people pleaser and training will support her desire to learn and give her some great new experiences to help grow her confidence.

Dolly is a chihuahua (likely mixed with terrier) and they are their own breed, so an adopter that has terrier or chihuahua experience would be awesome.

Because Dolly lived her entire life in an apartment, she loves the freedom a backyard brings so a home with a backyard or an active adopter, willing to get Dolly out on daily adventures throughout every season is a requirement.

Dolly would do best with a WFH or someone home most often lifestyle as she can exhibit separation anxiety or a take your dog to work scenario could also work for Dolly until she has grown her confidence more so and is comfortable being left alone.

Dolly is currently eating Tom & Sawyer cooked dog food. My guess is her senior owner fed her table scraps, so she can be a fussy eater. The Tom & Sawyer food offers her a balanced dog food option, as close to human cooking as we can get.

Dolly is not cat or kid tested. She is dog friendly.

FROM DOLLY'S FOSTER FAMILY:

Dolly has a sweet and affectionate personality. She is friendly, gentle, and enjoys being close to her people.

She likes to relax on the couch or lay beside you on top of a blanket, and will often follow you from room to room to stay nearby.

Dolly is currently learning to explore and adjust to a backyard environment in a house while in foster care. She is curious and adapting well to these new experiences.

She is crate trained and sleeps comfortably in her crate at night.

Dolly was previously trained to use pee pads and is in the process of transitioning to going outside. She may still have occasional accidents, but is improving with consistency and routine.

Dolly enjoys her Tom and Sawyer food she likes to eat in stages and is able to alert when hungry by digging in her bowl. We are still learning which times she likes to eat best as she doesnāt always eat in the mornings.

Dolly has not shown any signs of spiciness. She has only shown love and affection.

------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
