Dixie's Story

Meet Dixie! This 6-year old Southern Belle is a rotund stunner and so, so loving! She came to us from a loving local owner who is Australian and moving back to her home country...a country where pitties cannot be imported due to current regulations, and she would love to see Dixie adopted into a loving family before she leaves!

Miss Dixie was originally adopted from Texas 3 years ago (hence the Southern charm) as a throw-away mama who had served her purpose. We are sure her puppies were spectacular based on the temperament of this sweet girl! She loves to lie on her back and roll around, letting it alllll hang out. Shy? No way! And truth be told...Dixie is actually an affectionate and unassuming couch potato who loves nothing more than snuggling on the couch with humans. She will stare into your soul with never-ending love, soaking up every morsel of love and attention she can gather. You stopped petting her? Oh, Miss Dixie will let you know. She is housetrained, travels well in the car, loves any and all treats (obviously!), and prefers human companionship to toys.

Dixie will absolutely sound the alarm for every Amazon delivery (or if something scary with wheels moves past the house). She is an official welcome wagon, barking at visitors until they acknowledge her...then looking for constant love and affection during their visit. She has lived with cats successfully and is a bit of a curious weirdo meeting dogs. Nothing bad...just confused but ready to take their cues. This thick-thighed beauty prefers multiple short walks to longer ones. A hike for 2 hours or a walk in the heat? Uhhhh, no thanks. She would rather be in indoor conditions, where a couch, a human, and likely some snuggly blankets are offered. She is more of a lodge bunny than an expert skier but will gladly keep your spot by the fire warm and cozy while awaiting your return. Dixie has lived successfully with young kids with supervision, but due to her size, older kids might be best for this sweet chick due to her lack of social awareness and that forever wagging tail.

Dixie’s top 3 priorities:
1. A home where someone is around and available to give her lots of constant love and attention. Dixie does fine when left alone, and settles into a low energy routine easily, but prefers the company of humans and would love a WFH buddy!
2. A fairly non-active household...or one where the dog doesn’t need to go on all the adventures. Though Dixie likes leash walks, she definitely prefers shorter walks and is known to flop on the ground on long or hot walks.
3. Someone willing to let Dixie live out all of her days, feeling safe and loved.
