Dixie's Story

Dixie’s little body tells a story she never should’ve lived. But her heart is still open. Still gentle. Still full of hope. 🤍
Dixie was confiscated for cruelty. She arrived with every reason to give up on people but she looks at the world with the softest manners and the kindest, most hopeful eyes.
Now she’s safe, cared for, and slowly learning what comfort feels like.
She isn’t the first dog we’ve seen rise from cruelty, and she sadly won’t be the last. What matters most is that Dixie is safe now—and her next chapter can be everything the last one wasn’t.

Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm.

All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption.

All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers).

We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog.

If you have any questions, please email caccpetfinder@gmail.com

A306199
