Dinah's Story

Meet Dinah — a beautiful, long-legged, lovable girl who looks like a big dog but is really just a petite 20–25 pounds. At around 3 years old, Dinah is learning that the world can be safe, kind, and full of couch time with family.

When Dinah first came to us, she was extremely scared and completely shut down. Watching her slowly come out of her shell has been incredibly rewarding. Beneath the fear is a smart, sensitive dog who truly wants to connect with people and other dogs.

Dinah has the cutest awkward charm — sometimes her gangly legs seem to surprise even her, and she’ll break into what we lovingly call the “Scoobie shuffle.” She thinks she’s tiny and would happily curl up in your lap if you let her. More than anything, she wants to be close to her people and her dog friends. She especially looks to the older dog in her foster home for comfort and reassurance.

She’s making huge progress every day. Dinah no longer guards her food bowl and now happily allows another dog, Tilly, to walk right into her pen and eat beside her — a major milestone for a dog who once lived in survival mode. While she can still occasionally growl when she’s nervous or unsure, it’s becoming less frequent as her confidence grows with patience, routine, and love.

Dinah would thrive in a calm, patient home that understands shy dogs and will continue helping her build confidence at her own pace. A friendly, confident dog companion would likely help her feel even more secure.

Once Dinah trusts you, you’ll have a loyal little shadow with a goofy heart and so much love to give.
