Diesel's Story

DIESEL NEEDS A HERO. PREFERABLY ONE WITH A VERY LARGE COUCH.

URGENT FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED FOR ONE VERY SPECIAL GREAT DANE.

Some dogs need a big backyard. Some need an active family. Some need another dog to play with.

Diesel? Diesel needs the world to CALM THE HECK DOWN.

Meet Diesel, our magnificent, approximately 3-year-old Great Dane who is equal parts oversized couch potato, goofy sweetheart, and self-appointed Chief of the Fun Police.

And we desperately need to find him the right place to land.

Diesel is one of those dogs who makes you fall in love with the gentle, ridiculous nature of Great Danes. He's affectionate, enjoys being around his people, loves his toys, and is perfectly happy spending a good portion of his day lounging around like a 130-pound piece of living-room furniture.

He also enjoys heading outside, trotting around the yard, investigating all the interesting smells, and generally appreciating the finer things in life.

He's not asking for much.

A comfortable place to sleep. People to love. Some toys. A little fresh air.

And preferably a household where nobody acts like they've just been informed the building is on fire.

You see, Diesel has a very particular quirk.

HE DOES NOT LIKE CHAOS.

Not excitement in general. Not the mere existence of other dogs. In fact, Diesel has lived around multiple dogs and can be perfectly content minding his own business.

But when things suddenly get loud, frantic, or physical, Diesel seems to believe it's his personal responsibility to restore law and order.

Dogs running around barking wildly? Unacceptable.

Roughhousing that gets out of hand? Absolutely not.

Everybody suddenly losing their minds over something? Somebody call security.

And unfortunately, Diesel has appointed himself security.

While his intentions may be to interrupt the commotion, his reactions can be unsafe, especially given his enormous size and strength.

He's had incidents involving other dogs, including minor injuries, and one involving a child who was engaged in rough play. During that incident, Diesel soft-mouth grabbed the child's arm, and of course when the child pulled away, a wound resulted that required three stitches. Make no mistake, if he wanted to do real damage, he absolutely could. He's more so trying to play referee, but better that he doesn't have live in a situation where someone could get hurt, even if inadvertently.

We share this because Diesel needs the right home for him, and the people welcoming him deserve complete honesty. He's sweet, easy going and a happy boy.

He also has a history of guarding food and occasionally water, so those resources need to be managed carefully.

None of this changes the sweet, affectionate, wonderfully goofy dog we know and love.

But it DOES mean that Diesel needs a very specific environment to succeed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

A calm, predictable, adult-only home.

No other pets. Although Diesel can coexist peacefully with dogs under the right circumstances, we believe he deserves the opportunity to relax without the unpredictable activity and interactions that have triggered his reactions.

Someone comfortable with giant breeds who understands that even a gentle-natured Great Dane needs clear boundaries, structure, and responsible handling.

A home where quiet evenings, leisurely outdoor adventures, toys, and companionship are considered a perfectly wonderful way to spend the day.

Someone willing to give Diesel the time, patience, and appropriate behavioral support he needs to settle into a new routine.

Diesel has also faced weight challenges when he came to us, and his foster or adopter will need to be attentive to his nutritional needs. He eats several times a day so as to give him the extra calories without overwhelming his stomach at once.

Here's the thing that breaks our hearts.

Diesel isn't a dog who spends his days looking for trouble.

Most of the time, he's just a big, lovable goof who wants to enjoy life.

But he's currently living in an environment with multiple dogs, unpredictable excitement, and situations that simply aren't a good fit for him. One of the current furry residents has a few "personality quirks" and it's not a good match at all. He's crated more than we would like when he's so good, he absolutely doesn't need to be.

And every day that he remains in that environment is another day we're asking him to navigate circumstances we already know he struggles with.

We don't want Diesel to have to keep proving that he's uncomfortable. We want to give him a home where he can finally feel comfortable.

A place where he doesn't have to manage the other dogs.

Where he doesn't have to worry about somebody rushing his food bowl.

Where his biggest daily dilemma is whether to nap on the couch or his giant dog bed.

We believe there's someone out there who will absolutely adore this big lug.

Someone who doesn't need a dog-park social butterfly.

Someone who isn't looking for a dog to entertain the neighborhood children.

Someone who simply wants a devoted, goofy, affectionate giant to share their life with.

And for that person, Diesel might just be everything they've been looking for.

DIESEL GREAT DANE APPROX. 3 YEARS OLD

FOSTER OR ADOPTER URGENTLY NEEDED

We will provide full disclosure of his history and discuss his behavioral and medical needs with anyone seriously interested.

www.barking-back.org

Please share Diesel's story. His perfect home may not be the most common kind of home, but we know those homes exist.

Somewhere out there, there's an empty couch, a quiet house, and a person who needs this big beautiful boy just as much as he needs them.

To apply to foster/adopt this boy follow this link:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfWwCUmLIZ6N68ag21eOxAW7sOQjxC6MriQQyb4OyyzVefn6Q/viewform
