Dexter's Story

Dexter is an 11-month-old, 65-pound pittie/hound mix who is equal parts goofy, affectionate, and sensitive. He may be a big, awkward boy, but in his mind he's a lap dog. If you sit down, he'll be right there, happily leaning into you for cuddles.

Dexter loves kids and has done well with everyone he's met, including a baby. He was gentle and curious, but he doesn't always realize his size. Because of that, he'd do best with older children or dog-savvy little ones.

He also loves other dogs, big and small. Dexter enjoys playing but is excellent at reading cues, making him a respectful companion for dogs with all kinds of personalities.

As we've gotten to know Dexter, we've learned he's a sensitive soul. New sounds, thunder, squeaky toys, water, and unfamiliar men can make him cautious at first. Once he feels safe, his playful, goofy personality shines.

Dexter is incredibly bright, eager to please, and highly food motivated. He is crate trained, potty trained, sleeps quietly through the night in his kennel, and walks beautifully on leash with people he trusts. He quickly learned "sit" and "kennel," and he's currently working on "off" because he gets so excited to greet people.

Because Dexter is athletic, he'll need a home with a secure privacy fence, as he can easily clear a standard gate.

If Dexter looks familiar, it's because his brothers, Danny and Dylan, have already found their forever homes through our rescue. Now it's Dexter's turn.

To be considered, the first step is to apply here: https://www.pawsup4rescue.org/dog-cat-applicaiton
If you have previously submitted an application and received a message that your app is pending, please DM us with the name of the animal you are interested in.
We are located in Joliet, Illinois. Paws Up 4 Rescue's Adoption Policy
1. The first step is to fill out an application on our website PawsUp4Rescue.org/adoptions. This lets us know you are serious about adopting. We will call and check with your vet to make certain your current pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered. If you rent, we will also check with your landlord to make sure it's okay that you are adding a family member to your household. 2. The next step is to set up a time to meet your potential pet. If you've already met and fallen in love at one of our adoption events, we can proceed to set up a home visit to see how the animal gets along with the other residents of your home. *Home visits are for the purpose of assessing the relationship between all animals in the home. 3. If all goes well, we proceed to the paperwork stages and end with a new family photograph to share on our Facebook page!
