Dexter's Story

Meet Dexter
Dexter is a 11 month-old, 50-pound pittie mix who greets every day like it's going to be the best one yet. He's happiest spending time in the backyard with kids, playing with other dogs, and settling in close to his people when the day is done.
He absolutely loves kids and thrives in lively, active homes. Dexter happily joins in backyard games and family chaos, always ready to be part of the fun. Because he's still a young, strong boy, he can get a bit enthusiastic during play, so dog-savvy little ones or older kids are the best fit.
Dexter does wonderfully with other dogs of all sizes. He enjoys playtime when the energy matches but is equally respectful when another dog needs space, making him an easy addition to a multi-dog home.

He is crate trained, potty trained, and settling nicely into home life. Dexter is still learning leash manners. He has been known to suddenly flop onto his back mid-walk just to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the moment. At home, once he's tired out, he's content curling up with the other dogs and people and quietly relaxing like he's always belonged there.

Toys and fetch aren't really his thing yet. He's more of a "be with his people or dog friends" kind of guy, and we suspect he just hasn't been shown how fun toys can be yet. His future family will get the joy of introducing him to all those simple discoveries.

If Dexter looks familiar, it's because his brothers, Danny and Dylan, have already found their forever homes through our rescue. Now it's his turn.

If you're looking for a happy, affectionate companion who fits seamlessly into family life and loves both kids and dogs, Dexter is ready to meet you.

To be considered, the first step is to apply here: https://www.pawsup4rescue.org/dog-cat-applicaiton
If you have previously submitted an application and received a message that your app is pending, please DM us with the name of the animal you are interested in.
We are located in Joliet, Illinois. Paws Up 4 Rescue's Adoption Policy
1. The first step is to fill out an application on our website PawsUp4Rescue.org/adoptions. This lets us know you are serious about adopting. We will call and check with your vet to make certain your current pets are up-to-date on their vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered. If you rent, we will also check with your landlord to make sure it's okay that you are adding a family member to your household. 2. The next step is to set up a time to meet your potential pet. If you've already met and fallen in love at one of our adoption events, we can proceed to set up a home visit to see how the animal gets along with the other residents of your home. *Home visits are for the purpose of assessing the relationship between all animals in the home. 3. If all goes well, we proceed to the paperwork stages and end with a new family photograph to share on our Facebook page!
