Dewey's Story

Dewey’s story is one you won’t forget—and neither is his spirit.
We pulled Dewey from another shelter in January when he was just 4 months old, a happy, wiggly puppy with his whole life ahead of him. But in February, his journey took a sudden and scary turn. Dewey became very sick and was rushed to an emergency clinic, where X-rays revealed a foreign object in his digestive tract. He underwent an emergency enterotomy to remove what turned out to be a corn cob.

Just when we thought he was on the road to recovery, Dewey took a devastating turn two days later in his foster home. He was rushed back to the clinic, where doctors discovered he had gone septic and needed another emergency surgery. His chances of survival were only about 50%—but something told us Dewey wasn’t ready to give up, and we weren’t ready to give up on him.

After a long, difficult two-week recovery—much of it spent sedated so his little body could heal—Dewey proved just how strong he is. Today, he is fully healed, healthy, and ready to start the life he fought so hard for.

Through it all, Dewey has remained the same joyful, loving, and resilient pup we fell in love with from the start. He’s incredibly friendly, full of life, and eager to make new friends. He’s also very intelligent and highly food-motivated, which will make training a fun and rewarding experience for both him and his future family.
Dewey is looking for an active home that’s ready to help him continue learning his basic commands and give him the structure and adventure every young dog needs. After such a rough and unfair start, Dewey deserves a lifetime of love, stability, and happiness.

He fought against the odds and won—now all he needs is someone to show him just how good life can be.

Neutered scheduled for 03/027/2026.
