General Notes | Meet Chess! The sweetest with a bright personality and a knack for making instant best friends wherever he goes. With his golden coat, expressive eyes, and endless playful energy, he brings a constant spark of joy and affection to every day. Whether he's happily retrieving his favorite toy or curling up for a cozy lounge session, Chess is always ready to share his big heart with a loving family. Want to adopt this dog? He has a fun, playful personality that really shines when he starts to feel comfortable. He will be a great fit in many different types of families!<br/><br/>Story | Chess was purchased as a puppy from a breeder in southern Colorado. His owner was so excited to have an outdoor companion for all of the adventures! Unfortunately his owner became very sick and had to have a lengthy hospital stay. He continues to recover and does not feel he can devote the time and energy to Chess. He is entrusting MHLRM to find Chess a wonderful home. <br/><br/>Other Dogs | Chess previously lived with three German Shepherds and enjoyed having dog friends around. He was additionally temperment tested with a volunteer's dog and did great. He was a bit unsure at first but became fast friends<br/><br/>Cats | Chess was living with a cat but had limited exposure. He has a very sweet temperment so could potentially do well with a kitty friend but we do not know for sure<br/><br/>Children | Chess has had the most exposure to school-aged children and older. He is very sweet with all people <br/><br/>Training | Chess has not had a lot of training but he is very responsive and eager to please. He already walks well on leash with no reactivity to other dogs<br/><br/>Leash | Walks nicely!<br/><br/>Activity Level | Moderate - your typical lab! He really enjoys chasing the ball and we suspect he may be a water fan!<br/><br/>Health Notes | Chess could put on a few pounds but is otherwise healthy. He is neutered and UTD on vaccines<br/><br/>Thank you! | <br/><br/>Adoption Donations | Our adoption donations are $575 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year old, $525 for 1 - 6 years old, $475 for dogs 7 - 10 years old, and $350 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $625. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, transportation to Colorado, and supplies while in foster care (that currently average over $750 per dog).<br/><br/>Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet and greets by appointment to approved applicants only. To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. We will not respond to emails about animal availability or allow meet and greets without an approved adoption application on file. <br/><br/>Please Note | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved. Your application is good for one year from the date of applying for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle.<br/><br/> <br/><br/>We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!
