DELIA's Story

Hi, I'm Delia! 10 months old | Cane Corso | 50 lbs & still growing!

BIG dog. BIG breed. Biggest scaredy cat.

My siblings and I came to the shelter after our owner could no longer care for us. We grew up together with several other dogs and our parents, but our experience with the world outside of our home was pretty limited. Despite what you might expect when you hear "Cane Corso," I'm currently about as intimidating as a stuffed animal.

New person? I might hit the floor and freeze. Something I've never seen before? Probably going to need a minute. Give me some time to realize I'm safe? Suddenly I'm wiggly, affectionate, ridiculously sweet, and ready to soak up all the love!

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

Very dog friendly! I'm sweet and submissive with other dogs Shy and unsure with new people and situations Super wiggly and affectionate once I feel safe

Expected to do well with respectful children Haven't been tested with cats yet, but based on my demeanor, we're hopeful I'll do well with proper introductions

I'M STILL LEARNING HOW TO "DOG"

Before coming to the shelter, I had never been walked on a leash and was only let outside into a fenced yard. That means a lot of things other dogs consider completely normal are brand new to me! I'll need patience and guidance with:

Walking on a leash Potty training Basic manners and training Experiencing new people, places, sounds, surfaces, and situations Most importantly, building my confidence!

Socialization will be extremely important for me, but that doesn't mean throwing me into as many new situations as possible and hoping I get used to them.
I need someone who understands how to introduce new experiences positively, recognize when I'm becoming overwhelmed, work at a pace I can handle, and help me learn that the world isn't such a scary place.

NOW FOR THE REALLY IMPORTANT PART...

Although us sweet pups don't quite live up to the big, brave Cane Corso name just yet, we're only 10 months old. Our personalities are still developing, and the nervous puppies you see today may grow into MUCH more as adults!

Cane Corsos are large, powerful working and guardian dogs bred to protect their families and property. They can mature into strong willed, naturally protective and territorial adults and are NOT recommended for first time or inexperienced dog owners. Proper training, structure, continued socialization, boundaries, and confident, responsible handling are essential throughout their lives.

EXPERIENCE + TRAINING MATTER

Because of my breed AND limited socialization so far, experience with Cane Corsos or other large, powerful breeds with strong working or guardian instincts is STRONGLY preferred. (Rottweilers, Presa Canarios, Dogo Argentinos, Mastiffs, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, etc.)

No experience? That doesn't automatically mean you can't be my person! However, applicants without similar breed experience should be committed to working with a qualified professional trainer. This is HIGHLY recommended to help properly build my confidence, socialize me, establish healthy boundaries, and introduce new experiences without overwhelming me or creating future behavioral concerns.

I'm looking for someone who sees the ridiculously sweet, nervous baby I am today AND understands the powerful adult dog I'm still growing into. Someone committed to helping me learn, socialize, train, and build confidence long after adoption day and willing to seek professional guidance when needed.
Give me that, and I have SO much potential to become one incredible companion.

Spayed, microchipped, Heartworm & Lyme Negative, current on vaccines and on monthly prevention.

Adoption fee is normally $100, but $0 through 10/17/26!!

If you are interested in meeting and adopting, please submit an application here: https://www.fultoncoanimalcenter.org/application-to-adopt-a-dog

Once submitted, staff will review your application during open hours. Please allow 24-36 hours for a response. If approved, we will contact you to schedule a meet & greet! Any other dogs in the home must come along and some dogs may require all family members to come as well.

If the meet & greet goes well, you may adopt your new best friend that same day OR we offer a 14-day "Foster-to-Adopt" trial period to be sure the chosen pet is a good fit before officially adopting or paying any adoption fees!

See all of our adoptable pets here: https://www.fultoncoanimalcenter.org/adoptable-dogs-and-cats

Adoption Hours: Monday & Saturday 11am-4pm | Tuesday & Friday 11am-5pm | Wednesday 11am-6pm | Thursday & Sunday CLOSED
