Deacon's Story
Look into those warm chocolate eyes.
Deacon is such a good dog! He was wandering around a major highway for several weeks before we got him. We are a one-person rescue operation that takes in strays, gets them vet care, and then finds them homes. We have had Deacon for almost 2 months and have received hardly any interest in him.
He is a senior dog estimated 10-12 years old Lab/Rot mix. He is a big boy. You wouldn't know his age though besides the white on his underside and chinny chin chin. His back legs bother him sometimes, so he takes one coated aspirin per day with his food and they have improved a lot. Very manageable and inexpensive. He loves to go for walks and car rides but also loves to lie down for a snooze. He is kennel-trained. We haven't had him inside much due to our other dogs, but he has only marked once inside due to our dogs' marking. He knows basic commands (sit and shake) and is a quick learner. He dances on his front paws when he is excited to see you. He is friendly with other dogs and does great in public. He has been fine around our neighbor's farm dogs and our chickens as well, but they are in a coop. He is great on the leash and has great recall without. He stays on our property even if not on a lead or leash. He is neutered, and up to date on rabies parvo, and flea & tick, and heartworm prevention. He tested negative for heartworms, but positive for a tick disease. However, we spent money to run his blood work and the doctor said he was healthy for his age. He does have some fatty tissue lipomas on his chest, but they were checked by the vet and he is in the clear. He only needs someone to continue with his yearly checkups and monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative.
Amazing dog that still has some life left in him. He deserves a nice warm bed inside to live out his remaining years. He would be a great family dog or a great chill dog for an older person. Located in California, MO, but willing to transport for the right home. Limited stairs are best due to his legs bothering him as he ages. We know Deacon's forever family is out there and he is patiently waiting for you.
