DASPER's Story
Sometimes a dog captures your heart in more ways than you want to admit.

This is Dasper.

Dasper is an adorable 2-year-old Poodle mix who is safe with us and very much loved. But during his recent neuter appointment, our veterinarians discovered something we weren’t expecting.

Dasper has a grade 5/6 heart murmur, which they believe is congenital.

A congenital heart murmur means there is an abnormal heart sound caused by a heart condition that has been present since birth. In Dasper’s case, we have been told that his heart condition may affect his life expectancy.

And honestly... that is hard for us to hear.

We have been in this situation before. We have been told a dog may not have much time, only to have that dog surprise everyone and go on to live another 4–5 years. We simply don't know what the future holds for Dasper.

What we do know is this:

He is here.
He is safe.
He is sweet.
He deserves to be loved.
And he deserves the chance to experience what it feels like to have a family of his own.

Dasper is currently on heart medication twice a day and will require ongoing veterinary care and monitoring. His medical condition is something any potential adopter must be prepared to take on.

The amazing thing is that you would never know there was anything wrong with this boy just by looking at him. You would have to feel his chest to know there is a problem. He is still just Dasper — a sweet boy who wants to be loved.

So today, we are asking a very difficult question:

Is there a special family out there who would be willing to give Dasper a wonderful life, knowing that his life may be shorter than we would all hope?

We aren't looking for someone to save him for a few weeks or months.

We are looking for someone who will say:

“However long I have with you, Dasper, you will be loved.”

If you are truly capable of taking on Dasper’s medical needs, veterinary care, medication, and the uncertainty surrounding his future, he is ready to go home.

Interested in giving Dasper the life he deserves?

Please complete the adoption application on our website under “Adopt” — choose the SECOND option.

Please, please understand his medical needs before applying. Dasper needs a family who is financially, emotionally, and practically prepared to care for him and continue his veterinary treatment.

We know this isn't an easy adoption.

But maybe somewhere out there is a family who believes that a shorter life filled with love is still a life worth giving.

Dasper is waiting.

And we are hoping his person is out there waiting for him, too.

Breed Poodle Mix
Age 2yrs estimated
Weight 17 lbs

How to Adopt a Dog from ARF
Animal Rescue of Fresno is a Volunteer Managed & Operated Dog Rescue.
We are available by Appointment Only.
Adoptions begin with an Approved Application you can find the application at our website at www.arf-fresno.com

Application can be found in the drop-down menu above, click "ADOPT"
Mobile users click three lines at top of page to see "ADOPT"
Business Hours: By Appointment Only

We will review each submitted application, then contact the approved adopter via email.
