Dash - IN FOSTER HOME - AVAILABLE TO ADOPT's Story

FOSTER UPDATE:
Here's an update on Dash, as he's been enjoying foster care for a couple of months now. Dash is still an anxious herding type, but he's been an excellent house guest. Dash has met extended family members and is polite after initial introduction. Treats definitely help him with trust and acceptance. Dash is very good in his crate, not destructive, and is gentle with plush toys. His main way of interacting is bringing you a toy to toss for him. Dash does not guard toys or food, so it's easy for him to coexist with other dogs. He is very dog friendly and doesn't want any drama with other dogs. However, he usually gets nervous/anxious during play, so playtime with other dogs is not one of his strengths. Dash does benefit from having a balanced dog around.

Dash is looking for a furever home with people experienced with herding breeds. Plenty of time is needed in order for Dash to trust new people; ideally someone local who can meet and walk him a few different times before adopting him. Dash is fearful of things he doesn't understand, causing him to either shut down or panic. His fosters are doing their best in exposing him to new situations, but this will be an ongoing challenge for this sweet boy. Usually he just needs his humans to give him calm direction and time for his smart little brain to get in gear.

Dash is quite the athlete and loves to catch and retrieve a ball, so a fenced yard would be ideal for him. He cannot live in a home with cats or young children.

______________________________

Meet Dash! This smart, curious, and fun-loving Border Collie-Aussie mix is bursting with personality and energy. Around 3 years old and weighing 39 pounds, Dash is always up for an adventure—whether it's a game of fetch, a walk around the neighborhood, or exploring new sights and smells.

Highly trainable and eager to please, Dash thrives with clear guidance and regular exercise. He’s the kind of dog who loves having a job to do and feels most at ease when he knows the rules. Without structure, his natural herding instincts can take over—but with the right leadership and sufficient exercise, Dash is happy to follow your lead and relax.

Dash is great with other dogs and enjoys fast-paced, active play. He’d do well in a home with another playful pup, active adults, or older teens who can help him channel his energy in a positive way. Due to his herding nature and need for structure, he’s not a fit for young children.

A fenced yard is a must for this energetic boy, and he’d be a great match for someone familiar with herding breeds who’s ready to outsmart and outplay him—no small challenge! But for the right person, Dash will be an endlessly loyal, entertaining, and loving companion.

Ready to meet your match? Apply to meet Dash at redbarnrescue.com!

Red Barn Rescue's Adoption Policy
All dogs in our care are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (including Rabies when age-appropriate), heartworm tested, and kept on heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Many dogs also receive dental care, heartworm treatment, or other medical procedures as needed. Prospective adopters must complete an adoption application and receive approval before meeting a dog. Applicants must list all current pets, and those pets must be spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. A home visit may be required as part of our approval process. Once approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet with your family, including current dogs. Adopters are responsible for ongoing veterinary care, keeping their pets up to date on vaccines and preventatives, and maintaining a safe, responsible home. If you are looking for a specific type or breed, you may submit an application and note your preferences for future consideration. Our adoption fee reflects the medical care and resources invested in preparing each dog for a healthy start. If an adopter can no longer care for their dog, the dog must be returned to Red Barn Rescue as stated in our contract.
