Darla's chihuahua-ness is not working out in her current home, despite every effort from her family. <br/><br/>In true chi form, this 4-yr old girl can have a sassy side and takes time to warm to new people. She has some anxiety issues which causes subsequent personality conflicts with the other resident dogs. Being the smallest of the pack, she often starts issues she cannot finish. She is an alpha personality in a tiny package.<br/><br/>In Dec. 2025, Darla experienced a spinal injury that caused rear-leg paralysis,haha possibly from jumping on to the couch. The veterinarian suggested euthanasia, but her family did not give up on her. Darla is a fighter and has been able to regain her ability to walk, with an adorably wobbly, but effective, gait. She can go down steps, but cannot easily go up. When excited, she can lose bladder control, so often wears a doggie diaper in the house. Her current owner has some to send to her new home. <br/><br/>Darla would do best in a home with no other dogs or dogs her own size, as she gets along fine with her similarly-sized, Yorkie foster sister. She needs her person to be patient, and devoted to earning Darla's trust and endless love. Because of her initial spicyness and more delicate back, she would need a home with no small children. <br/><br/><br/><br/>WE ONLY ADOPT WITHIN A 2 HOUR RADIUS OF THE TRICOUNTY AREA. ***Exceptions may be made for seniors or hard to place dogs.<br/><br/>If the animal is under the age of 3 years old or has health issues, a vet reference is required, which means you must own a pet or have owned a pet in your name.<br/><br/>ADOPTION FEE of $ covers all vetting including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip, heartworm test and treatment if needed, and any other medical that may be required while in rescue. Please do not ask us to reduce adoption fees since all fees help us cover medical expenses for all of our animals, some of which can be very expensive. Saving lives is not cheap, so thank you for understanding and helping us save as many as possible.<br/><br/>We only do adoptions on Saturday, and not all animals are able to attend. If you would like to see a specific animal, please let us know via email and we will try to accommodate. However, we cannot guarantee the animal will be at the event without an approved application.
