He’s not antisocial—he just knows what he likes, and what he likes is YOU.

At 13 pounds, Darcy is basically a tiny, curly-haired supervisor whose primary responsibility is making sure his humans never accidentally experience life without him nearby.

Going to the kitchen?

Darcy should probably come.

Sitting on the couch?

Excellent. Darcy has been waiting for this meeting.

Giving someone else attention?

Interesting decision. Please reconsider.

Darcy is happy, bouncy, playful and incredibly affectionate. He loves being around people and will gladly accept every belly rub, cuddle and scratch you’re willing to provide.

Unfortunately, Darcy came to us with one problem that was completely preventable.

His previous owners did not keep him on proper heartworm prevention, and as a result, Darcy is heartworm positive.

The good news is that Darcy is now getting exactly the care he should have received all along. He has started heartworm treatment and is expected to complete treatment by the end of October. Once treatment is behind him, keeping him on monthly heartworm prevention will help make sure he never has to go through this again.

Darcy doesn’t know anything about heartworms, of course. He just knows that rescue life apparently includes people who love him, take care of him, provide snacks and are surprisingly willing to scratch his booty.

He approves of this arrangement.

Darcy’s Resume

Approximately 4 years old
About 13 lbs
Poodle mix
LOVES his humans
Dog friendly, but not looking for a doggie BFF
Seems perfectly fine around cats
Happy and playful
Extremely affectionate
Strong supporter of booty scratches
Vaccinated
Scheduled to be neutered
Scheduled to be microchipped
Heartworm positive and currently undergoing treatment
Expected to complete heartworm treatment by the end of October

Darcy would be perfectly happy living with another respectful dog who understands that Darcy did not sign up for mandatory team-building exercises. He may also be thrilled as an only dog where he can dedicate himself full-time to his true passion:

being somebody’s little shadow.

If you want a dog who spends his days entertaining another dog, Darcy probably isn’t your guy.

But if you want a sweet, funny, affectionate little companion who thinks YOU are the greatest thing that has ever happened to him, we should probably introduce you.

Darcy has been waiting his whole life for a human to obsess over.

He’s ready to return the favor.

Darcy is currently fostered in Texas and available for adoption through AJC Rescue & Transport and available to transport to approved adopter in the Midwest, Northeast and Canada.

$500 Adoption fee includes vaccinations, Spay/Neuter, microchip, deworming,
$300 fee for Transport and vet/documentation requirements in preparation for transport.

You can find my form "AJC Rescue & Transport Adoption Application" at:

https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/AJCR/Dog

Meet Darcy — President of the Human Fan Club

Darcy is approximately 4 years old, 13 pounds, and we believe he is a Poodle mix.

Technically, Darcy is a dog.

Emotionally, Darcy would like to distance himself from that community.

Darcy is dog friendly, but let’s clarify what that means.

Other dogs can exist.
Other dogs can live in his house.
Other dogs can walk past him.
Other dogs can go about their little dog business.

Darcy simply asks that they leave him out of it.

He isn’t looking for a wrestling partner, a canine best friend, or someone to share his toys with. His social calendar is already completely booked because Darcy has discovered HUMANS, and frankly, nothing else compares.

His priorities are very straightforward:

Be with his humans
Receive attention
Get belly rubs
Collect booty scratches
Be with his humans some more
Politely ignore the other dogs
