DAPHNE's Story
Daphne is a 9 month old small, 20 lbs, Hound Mix - Embark DNA tested. She is super cute, will have a puppy face for a long time, and will make you smile everyday with her quirky and goofy personality.

People often look past Daphne because she isn't a dog who immediately seeks out attention and affection from new people. She's a sensitive, nervous young dog who can be anxious in new situations and needs someone who understands that trust takes time. She wants her person around, but isn't a velcro dog, shes independent and is good when humans are away. She isn't looking for someone to "fix" her, just let her be the dog she is!

Once Daphne feels safe, watch out because her quirky, unique, and loving personality shines! She can find entertainment in just about anything—proudly carrying around treasures she discovers, tossing around her favorite fruits and veggies, chewing on a good bone or toy, wiggling down a hill on her back, or making you laugh with her judgmental (and sometimes downright crazy) expressions. She absolutely loves playing with other dogs, and every foster puppy always gravitates toward her and becomes their favorite playmate.

Daphne is a little stubborn, and that's okay. She's probably never going to be the dog who masters a long list of tricks, but she's happy just enjoying life. Daphne loves treats and is very food motivated—you'll quickly become her best friend with snacks! She's learned to sit for treats and meals, although she sometimes gets impatient and jumps up if they don't arrive quickly enough. She may be smaller, but she isn't a dog who wants to be carried around or picked up often. She does, however, love being close to her people and can usually be found curled up by your feet or tucked against you on the couch.

Daphne has been going to doggie daycare 2x a week at K9cation to build her confidence with new people and learn that it's okay to be away from her person. She is doing AMAZING! She gets so excited when she hears, "It's school time!" and is now confidently approaches staff members for pets and love. She LOVES car rides to daycare and always seems so excited to see what adventure she's going on next.

She is so great going into her kennel at bedtime as she knows it's her place. She prefers the cave feel for her space and will love on her stuff animals for a few minutes and then will sleep until 6:30 am.

Daphne's DNA is Hound mix and barks at times. She barks when she's excited, when another dog has something she'd like or if they stole something from her, when she sees her person outside while she's inside, and when a cat or dog walks past the front window. She will bark occasionally to check if you're around if she's separated from you or you've left. She does wear a bark collar and it really helps curb her barking and takes a calming chew if she will be in a stressful situation.

Daphne is looking for a family that understands that not every great dog is fearless or outgoing. She needs people who will give her time to adjust, respect her boundaries, laugh at her goofy moments, and appreciate the unique dog she is. In return, you'll earn the trust of a loyal companion who simply wants to feel safe, loved, and included.
