Daphne's Story

Meet Daphne!

Daphne was found as a stray in Texas. She delivered and raised her puppies like the devoted mama she is, and now it’s finally Daphne’s turn to be loved. Daphne has done well with children, cats, and other dogs in her previous foster home. However, with her herding instincts, she may be best suited for a home without young children.

Daphne is a gentle and incredibly sweet shepherd mix. She can be a little timid at first, but once she feels safe her affectionate side shines. She melts for pets and loves curling up next to her people for cuddles and naps. She really enjoys walks. She walks nicely on leash but new smells and dogs can distract her. Loud cars or dogs can alarm her and she does have a strong prey drive, but she responds well to reassurance and redirection.

Daphne is a fast learner, and is starting to make great progress with potty training and routines. While she is not always highly treat motivated, she learns quickly with consistency and praise. She is still learning what things are okay to chew, but she responds well to redirection toward her toys. She just needs a patient home with consistent structure to help her keep building confidence and to become the loyal and affectionate companion she is meant to be.

Daphne enjoys the simple pleasures of watching her humans perform a job or following her humans around the house, lounging nearby, or simply being close. She is a cozy, relaxed companion once she feels secure enough to settle. Daphne generally sleeps through the night in her crate and settles well in her crate during the day when her person is nearby (it is a safe space for her to decompress). An adopter who works from home part or full time would be ideal as she works through some separation anxiety.

Daphne does have a playful side, and since she is used to the outdoors she would thrive in a home with a yard where she has space to feel safe to do her zoomies and lounge outside where she can sniff the wind, soak up the sun, and watch the squirrels with intense curiosity.

Daphne is heartworm positive, but don't let that stop you from adopting her! It is absolutely treatable and dogs go on to live happy, full lives! She has already received treatments and is improving with each day, showing more playfulness and energy.

If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle dog who wants to be your loyal companion, Daphne might be the perfect addition to your home.

If you’re interested in adopting Daphne, apply online at www.uppupandaway.org. Meet and greets only happen once approved as an adopter. If you’re already an approved adopter or foster, feel free to DM your interest.

Up Pup and Away's Adoption Policy
How long will it take to process my application? We are a small rescue group who is ran by volunteers. Please allow us at least 3 business days to process your application and we will get back to you as soon as possible! Please note that we are not a first come first serve rescue. No meet and greets will be scheduled until you have gone through the adoption application & have been approved. Why is the adoption fee so expensive? Our rescues come from all over the globe, and their final destinations are here in Colorado. Our rescue runs solely on donations and adoption fees to continue to help as many dogs as we are able. Because our dogs do come from all different backgrounds (young, old, domestic transfers, international transfers, etc….), we must ensure they are healthy prior to adoption and also spayed/neutered (if of age*) to break the cycle of unwanted litters and pet overpopulation. The average spay/neuter cost here in the Denver area is between $250-$450 just in itself! Together, we can stop the pet overpopulation. I applied to adopt, now what? Please note that filling out an application does NOT mean you have been approved for adoption. We will review the applications and if we feel you are a good fit for the dog you are interested in, we will move forward with the adoption process. If we feel you are a great fit for an adopter, but just not for that specific dog, we will keep your application on file for future rescue pups needing homes. We will check your references, and once we feel you would make a great fit, we will schedule a phone screening. If approved to move forward, we will schedule a home check/meet and greet. Please note that just because you would have a meet and greet, you are NOT approved for adopting that dog. We have a strict policy for which dog ends up being adopted by which family. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue. Meaning, if you are the very first person to apply, this does not mean you are a match. Our mission is to find each of our dogs their perfect home & we request you respect that.
